So What's The Big Deal About 1080p/60fps? Seriously...

After playing Wolfenstein The New Order I find myself asking this. The graphics aren't exactly jumping out at me and slapping me with awesomeness. lol Is this really what the fuss has been all about?

I should add that I think the game is ok. Graphically, I'm not really impressed.

Just as an FYI Sony operate the same system for PSN/PS3s too. What's the big deal about updating anyway?

 

It gives fanboys the ammo needed to attack the other console.

 

Most people don't even know what 1080 p means. They just read it on the Internet and repeat it.

 

For devs/publishers,its a big deal.This is the only way to advertise games or HD remakes.No more talks about gameplay ,innovation,contents.

For console manufacturers,it's a big deal.This is the only way to advertise theirs systems and games on it.No more talks about,services,exclusives,improvements,new features.

For Haters,it's a big deal.This is the only way to jump on forums,create threads,writing posts, trolling,to justify their choice.No more cries about their miserable, empty life.

 

Like 24 said, its all fanboy BS. Some kids use it as a way to justify getting a PS4 over XB1 or just Sony ponies trying to bring down the Xbox instead of actually playing their console. Sony & some media outlets perpetuate the situation but no one is really
effected by this expect those who spend too much time reading about video games on the web.

Game. play > Graphics, always and forever. At least for true gamers.

 

The greater the resolution, the greater the level of detail you will be able to pick out. This of course doesn't magically make a game look better, a poor looking game will look poor no matter the resolution.

Gameplay wise a greater resolution enables you to place more accurate shots in a shooter, for example. You can be more specific as to where you are placing your shots.

Frames per second aid in smoothness of motion. Gameplay wise this is of a good benefit in games where you need to move quickly around objects, you are less likely to go further than you intended.

Resolution and frames per second play a part in gameplay just as they do in how a game looks.

 

^^ what voteDC said, if the details are bad the game won't magical look any better because it is 1080p.

Plus it isn't even a year into these new machines, i'm sure next year will be a lot better in terms of graphics, resolution and fps.

 

Wolfenstein is 60fps and you can feel it it's very smooth.

 

Gee IDK,,the games on the one look no better or even worse than on the 360 ..I mean look at TR on both and what about NBA2K 14 ,yep,looks identical ..OK sarcasm over!

Both systems look better than their predecessors,the end.

 

I've placed some pretty accurate shots on standard definition TVs. Resolution has no bearing on gameplay to me. Maybe its my 20/20 vision.

FPS is key though.

 

1080p doesn't represent 'good' graphics. It represents resolution. I think many are confused by this, as someone above said.

 

Only idiots think 1080p means anything. As you can see from many ps4 games they compress the textures and upscale them so the native is 1080p where as xbox render at native then upscale., which any photoshop user will tell you the latter is the best way.

 

1. It's not ammo for fanboys. If anything it's anti ammo for ppl who wish they had 1080p deep down It's 2014....it should be standard.

2. If you're applying that "the graphics don't impress" and you're blaming 1080p....then you don't really know what you're talking about. Graphics don't consist of "it's 1080p so it looks GREAT!!!". Textures have to be good, there has to be some sort of
AA and lighting....everything.

The Textures in Wolfenstein look like last gen type in some areas. The are blurry and stretched. The game is fun, and in many parts the graphics are fine, but it's idTech 5....the same engine RAGE was done in I believe....so it's not like it's a revolutionary
new generation engine.

TL;DR - 1080p doens't automatically mean you'll have good graphics...please understand what you're talking about before you start throwing pennies.

It's a VIDEO game....the video is just as important as the game part. This "naturalist revolution" of "I play games not graphics" is a joke. Eye candy has always been part of this machine.
