So what is the consensus for this game?

I'm an avid Call of Duty gamer but decided to pass on this game because of the exo-suit (halo hop).

How does this game compare to past call of duties? What are people's general thoughts on the game/new features?

Campaign of Carnage DLC

on these xbox forums the consensus is that the dlc is wack but on the gearbox bl2 forums they are praising this dlc what gives?!

 

How much is too much?

What society considers normal is, in fact, what is normal. Normality, like the whole concept of society, is based on consensus. A certain amount of conformity, to the consensus, is what enables you to function within a society. Anything - not just gaming
- that has a deleterious effect on that ability to function, is inherently negative.

Making a conscious choice towards something that is inherently negative does not make it any less so.

 

It's not COD... it's desperately trying to be Halo, or Titanfall... anything but COD... so if you like COD... this isn't it... hold out for Treyarch's game....

 

Thank you for the reply. That is what I suspected. I didn't want to support their move towards halo (the game that many gamers left when COD 4 came out). I prefer classic COD. Along the lines of COD 4 and MW2 (not including the exploits of course).

I needed a break from gaming so the exo-suit was a blessing in disguise for me. After a 2 month hiatus I'll be back in January. I'll probably give Far Cry a chance because of how much I enjoyed 3. I need to look into the Crew, AC, Alien and Dragon age.
I'm not sure how to fill the COD void.

Hopefully the next COD is a little more traditional. I'm going to google it right now.

 

I haven't had too many complains with gameplay in general. If anything this title is riddled with map exploits (out/under the the map) and some really stressful spawns. Exo suits allow for an extra dimension to combat (with the
addition of classic playlist for those who don't want to utilize the exo suit maneuvering). Another issue is map designs. Some maps feel too small with the use of exo abilities or don't offer much to gain by using your exo suit.

Aside from that it isn't a horrible title as many would define it as. It has its flaws but they aren't enough to consider this game to be "trash".
Its still early in the game's life cycle.
Hopefully with zombies it will make the title much more appealing.

 

EXO Abilities and movement really make this game different from the rest of the COD games. For me it is very difficult as well as frustrating to use the EXO suit and abilities. My KDR has suffered because of it. going from a normal 2.2 to a 1.5.

On the other hand the game shows promise with it's "Classic mode" for MP although I don't think they will support it well. All in all Rent it and give it a try. If it's not your cup of tea just wait for Treyarch

From a once avid CoD player OP, I highly recommend giving BF4 a try if you haven't already. It just a better game in my opinion.

 

I have BF4 and really enjoy it...but it will never be the same as COD for me. I have a blast playing Battlefield but I can only play a few matches at a time before I get a little bored.

Until COD 2015 is released my MP FPS repertoire will consist of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Battlefield 4. I might dabble in some WaW/Ghosts...but only when I'm desperate.

 

Relentless is spot on. This is not CoD or what those of us who have been here since the start on consoles (CoD Finest Hour) know of the series. Before I get to what is broken, and it is truly broken, here's what I do like. I think they nailed the "Pick
13" load out. It allows you to set up your character for how you want to play. I like the scorestreaks, I like that they build on each other. I also really like how they are upgradeable.

I could generate a wall of text with what I don't like but I will just stick with how the game plays and where they missed it completely. Unfortunately, after billions in sales in this series they refuse to invest in dedicated servers to make the online
experience better for the community. I get it, drug dealers typically don't invest in the community. But heres the problem, they used the same P2P netcode as previous installments so the occasional crippling lag / beastmode game play is there generating
consistent WTF moments. Combine this with the fact that the EXO suits makes the game play 3 to 4 times faster and that they kept the tick rate (the rate at which to server refreshes everyone position on the map) the same has been a recipe for disaster. Nobody
is ever really where they appear to be on the map. So combine P2P lag + same tick rate and the game is unplayable. Its broke.

The maps lack character and are generally boring, the LMG's are useless and thus nobody uses them, spawns are horrible worst in the series IMO. They just missed it in so many ways but it has a feel of not really trying to make a great game. No polish.

I could ramble on but its just really a huge disappointment. When I play, I only play classic modes now to cut down on some of the BS. The reality is, this is the last CoD I will buy at launch. They have lost me so they have to have lost thousands of
others.

@ juice - I like hearing your rambles. I've been big into Call of Duty multiplayer since COD 2. When I hear reviews like this it makes me feel like I made the right choice not buying AW. The only way to communicate with developers is with your wallet.
I typically pre-order copies for more than one console and purchase all map packs and a few micros. When I heard the addition of the halo hop/Titanfall boost I cancelled all pre-orders to send a very small message. I play Call of Duty for the classic Call
of Duty experience. It isn't a futuristic shooter. It took the thrown from a futuristic shooter. Heading in that direction is the wrong decision imo. Hopefully they only incorporate double jumps/jet packs every third release with sledgehammer. On the
bright side it gives me a year to try other franchises and focus on other hobbies.

 

Agreed. This is the first CoD that I have not bought on the "other" system. I too play on both purchasing the DLC etc. With the line up (or lack there of) coming in 2015 it looks like I'll be on the golf course a lot more this year lol.

 

@Lacky86: For some reason, I'm back to doing well in COD with AW. My KDR suffered terribly in Ghosts due to the design flaws in that game such as really large maps, high damage weapons combined with low player health, and other design flaws that made it
the least played COD for me. So far, AW is a step in the right direction for me regarding COD as I'm not going through the usual 1 month period where I do bad while getting used to that COD. The EXO abilities, pick 13, and customizable scorestreaks combined
with the futuristic setting makes it better than BO2 in my opinion.
