    So they did a gamertag release, but now can they do a reserved gamertag release?


    So Xbox has this system where you don't require an Xbox to create a Live Account linked to your Microsoft account. Part of this is choosing a name. And some people decided to reserve a bunch of the best names. Now if you ever try to change your name, you'll
    see that when you want to change your name to, let's say, The Arbiter, it says name is reserved. So you'd think, oh they reserved it in cas they need it for a presentation at a convention. But no, the name Master Chief is taken by someone. These names that
    were reserved need to be un-reserved. You can't just reserve a table at a restaurant for tonight and go the next day. Please Microsoft, Un-Reserve these names that people want to use (and if you can do one specifically for me contact me by message)

    Can a Admin please contact me and or help me out?

    I just got finished talking to an agent and they told me to post in the Form. The previous owner of the Gamertag "Dan" change his name around 5:00 PM yesterday and no one yet has the Gamertag but it is reserved. I have enough money to change it right now
    but I can't were its reserved. If the Gamertag "Dan" stays reserved for a week can you unreserve it for me so I can purchase and change my Gamertag to "Dan" if you need to contact me My Gamertag on Xbox one is "Danny Hits".     Reserved?

    Today i was changing my gamertags an a few of the names i tried said they were reserved?. So i tried looking to see if anyone had the gamertag but nothing showed up?. So im guessing Microsoft reserved them for their self?

    Reserving a Gamertag from an inactive account?

    Unfortunately support gave you incorrect information. There is no way to reserve a gamertag (if there were, support would have been the ones to do it). And yes, there was a mass release of gamertags in 2016, but that will be the last mass release. They changed a policy with that release that if a person doesn't sign into their Xbox account within 5 years, the gamertag will be released.

    Releasing Old Gamertags

    Hey guys, they did release old gamertags and people started selling them on Ebay etc. so if they were to do it again there is no way to stop people signing up free accounts for the best one and we're back in the same situation.

    If you can think of a way that gamertags could be released to the community that gives everyone a fair chance and stops the issue of people reserving to sell, I'd suggest posting the idea at the feedback site where it will at least get seen:

    Things changed last year so they will probably not do anymore "mass gamertag releases" in the future.

    Now if a gamertag does not log in for 5 years it is then released & made available.

    As mentioned, you cannot reserve a gamertag, nor is there any guarantee it will ever be released.

    That being said, have you tried to change your current gamertag or create a new account with that gamertag?

    As the gamertag is already tied to another account there is nothing that can be done to allow you to take this gamertag. If an account is inactive for a sufficient period of time (five years I believe) then Microsoft reserve the right to release the gamertag
    for other gamers to select it again.
