Microsoft (MS) takes security seriously.

So when you have access to the email and password but no longer have access to what they call the security proofs (where they send either an email or phone number to so that they can verify ownership of the account) they will allow you to change that security
proof but there is a 30 day hold on the account that will prevent you from doing anything that requires a security proof.

This is so that someone can not just get ahold of another persons email and password and change the security proofs on the account and make changes to the account.

Once the 30 day wait is placed on the account THE ONLY way to cancel it is to regain access to the old security proof that was originally on the account.

As far as why the system is not letting you add a new account to the console that I do not know what could be causing that.

The same problem would happen with playstation if you accidentally requested to update your security information. I would contact xbox support and let them know what the problem is and have good quality pictures of the problem. I feel like in this situation
you are out of luck.

Having an email that you don’t have access to anymore or a very old email from when you first created the account that you don’t even remember what email that is, this falls onto the responsibility of the user to keep their account updated with the most
current information. I also learned this the hard way when I didn’t update account info and was locked out of my account forever because I did not know my very old email address password or even the security question answers. I was also much younger then and
have learned to practice this way of poor management of my account.

Playstation is great as well. I have both but I prefer my xbox. The community in my opinion is better and my friends all have xbox so that’s a bonus. This same problem will happen with playstation and nintendo if you don’t properly manage your account. Lesson
learned for the future.
