So my question deals with the online thingy.

Soooo, I pay $60.00 for one game and $30.00 for another game. Also paid <$500.00 for the XBO. Now I recently had internet issues and tried to play my games with the XBO and come to find out that I need internet access to play them. What gives? What's wrong
with just playing offline? It's like every time I turn around someone somewhere wants more money. I mean it's not enough to charge $60.00-$70.00 for a game, $450.00-$550.00 for a console, you have to tie it up to the internet also? To what end? Seeing's how
i paid a lot of money to be able to play, that only gets my foot in the door, I feel tjhat I deserve to play it offline anytime I so choose. Is this what we can expect in the future? First no backwards compatibility(would be a major incentive to buy the thing),
now you have to have internet in order to play, why? I'm perfectly fine just playing without internet. Please chime in.

Yeah, the only time you'll most likely receive a special offer would be when your membership expires and they come up with the deal thingy.

It may have something to do with the online play "pass" thingy too.

 

You can play it offline, the console may need an initial update to play some of the newer games offline andvobviously you can't play anything related to multilayer.

 

I think you go into settings, choose "network" and then "go offline".

 

You have 2 Xbox One games, Sunset Overdrive and Watch Dogs. Neither of which are online only games. You may need to connect to Uplay for Watch Dogs but that is not a Microsoft issue.

 

Hey thanks for the responses so far. I don't even get why it HAS TO go online. I have played it online every time, now that I want to play offline, there is is some sort of problem. I don't think Playstation has to be online but I will check. I do have both
and I like each equally well. Anyway I do get that it needs to update your profile and your trophy case. I mean I get it. But when I choose to play offline why can't I do so? Have a great Thanksgiving! I am thankful that I was able to be in the US Navy, have

You bought those games digitally? You need to be connected online in order for the system to authenticate that you really do own those games. It's the same on PS4 with their digital games. The solution would be to but physical copies of the game.

I got that email yesterday and tried replying and letting Bungie know that I like my friends and dont want to subject them to their game.

Well They are not digital games unless they are d/ling when you put in the disk. I also wiped the hdd and started over(since I just got it there was not much on it anyway). I also know that with all microsoft products like windows and office products, you
need to get online to ACTIVATE the dam things. So if I don't have internet service I don't have xbox as well. PSN is not so, I was just playing AC Black Flag on my PS4 and was playing just fine, but the next time I go online I am sure it will update and sync
up my trophys and acheivements. Anyway, that's just a whole lot of horse puckey!!! It's like they dont trust us to hack or not hack their systems or something. Anyway, whatever. I won't be playing any Watch Dogs or Sunset Overdrive till I get some internet
or something. Screw me right?

Lost all hope for you once you mentioned backwards compat... seriously...

 

You need to go online when you initially set the console up, and to update it to the latest dashboard. The same is true of the Playstation. As for downloadable games, if your Xbox is set to your "Home Xbox" (or "primary" console on the Playstation) then
games can be played offline by going into Settings - Network - Go offline.

As for games on disc, you should be able to install and play them offline. You may run into an issue if your Xbox is running an old version of the dashboard due to it not being connected to Live for a long time, and you try to play a game that requires a
newer dashboard version, as currently it doesn't seem that dashboard updates are included on game discs (as they were with the Xbox 360).

I think part of the problem is that a lot of people don't know that there's a "Go offline" option. If your console isn't connected to Live and you don't specifically put the console in offline mode, then you will run into issues.

 

well some of us do remember the go offline command or menu. I couldn't remember where it was hidden. I can any way to get the x1 to play without internet like fresh out of the box? I scrubbed the hdd so it keeps wanting to go online. Anyway thanks.
