So, I just bought a new hard drive...

So, yesterday I bought a 250 GB HDD. I transferred everything from my older HDD over to the new one, but every time I turn on my console with the new hard drive connected, it says it requires an update. It then attempts to download this update, and fails
every time. Is there anything I can do to fix this? My Xbox Live connection works just fine, my older hard drive works when connected, it's just with the new one that I run into this problem.

The hard drive you bought, is it just an external hard drive or an actual 360 hard drive? If it is a 360 drive, was it bought brand new, or used/from a third party like ebay?

My xbox was working just fine all last weekend until sunday night it just would not boot right. I bought a new hard drive and i cant get it to boot to set the new hard druve up!

Okay, so, I tries installing the XBL update via USB key... The 250 GB HDD is now unformatted, and I have lost everything that I had saved on both hard drives. And the console will no longer go to the dashboard if the 250 is connected.

 

Where did you purchase the hard drive from and is it an official Xbox hard drive?

 

yeah the unformatting thing is VERY common with third party drives this is why they are NOT recommended sorry.
