So I can send/receive voice messages, but can't talk or hear party/game chat

Hey Hydro Skillet, thanks for the reply. I have not tried multiple mics. if I had another one, I would try it, but I would be very surprised if the headset was the issue, given how the problem is not ever permanent and considering how when this problem occurs,
I can still record voice messages on Xbox live and also listen to voice messages through my headset. Additionally, I've noticed that when this problem has popped since the release of Rocket League, RL will crash during the countdown timer when being placed
into an online match. this has happened about 5 times since Tuesday, and each time I lose party and game chat functionality, I also begin to experience the crash in Rocket League matchmaking.

The party and game chat issue and also the Rocket League matchmaking crash are occurring for me right now.

Sorry about the trouble you're having. The issue with Rocket League sounds like a separate issue, so that we can best help out let's focus on one issue at a time. As Hydro Skillet mentioned, testing a different headset is definitely worth trying. Do you
possibly have a friend with a headset you can test?

Thank you for the reply, Maka. I do not have access to another headset, unfortunately. Like I said, however, I am nearly 100% sure that my headset is not the issue. There are multiple reasons for this theory of mine.

1) When I have this problem, as I am having now, I can always record and send audio messages using Xbox live, and I can listen to any message I receive or create and send. I hear everything in each message clearly when I do this - even when said headset
is not being picked up in party/game chat.

2) This problem pops up intermittently, and is not a constant issue I have. Most of the time, party and game chat work properly, and I am able to use my headset without issue. As you can imagine, though, it is very frustrating when it does happen.

3) While this issue is occurring, party chat does not recognize when I do not have a mic plugged in. Normally, when Xbox one users join or start a party without a mic plugged in, a symbol will be next to their name in the party menu with a message that says
a microphone could not be detected. This alert doesn't pop up in the party menu when I am having problems with party and game chat.

4) I have noticed, since this problem happens so much for me, that I am unable to add friends or manage any friendships while the party/game chat issue is occurring. Meaning, to me, there is some sort of non-hardware issue going on. The inability to manage
friends happens EVERY time the party and game chat problem happens.

5) The matchmaking error in Rocket League (mentioned in a previous post of mine to this thread) happens EVERY time the party and game chat issue happens. EVERY TIME. It would be hard to argue that 6 times in a row with each problem occurring simultaneously
to be a coincidence.

Hopefully the above information has provided enough details for you all to work on this issue properly. Although I only have an accounting degree and am not an Xbox live expert, everything I have experienced tells me this is in no way a hardware issue. Period.
It tells me this is a social/gaming issue that has nothing to do with any hardware I use. Once again, thank you for your reply, and let me know if any further information is required before you simply trust me on this one. Have a wonderful day!

Hey Clutch313!

Thanks a ton for that information, that helps immensely with narrowing this down. Thanks for clarifying the trouble with Rocket League as well, it's connection with party chat issues leads me to believe this is a connection issue and not a software issue.
When you have party chat/disconnection issues have you tried checking your detailed network statistics to see if there is any change?

Can you also clarify what type of network hardware you have your Xbox One connected to? Thank you!

Update.

So the microphone lets me talk, and i can also hear party chat and voice messages. But cannot hear the game or normal xbox guide noises.

Any ideas ?

Can't edit so posting it here.

The problem is that I can no longer talk, listen to party chat and listen to game chat on the same headset as I once could.

I can listen to game chat and party chat on the same headphones, but the xbox/controller doesn't send the audio form my microphone to any service.

People in my party can not hear me, and when I record messages, there is nothing recorded.

I can, however, hear my own voice when a certain setting is turned on, on the xbox. (I can't remember the name of this setting right now)

My mic is not muted in any hardware control or any xbox setting that I know of.

Looks like there's an Xbox live service alert noting that Social and Gaming services are currently limited. Hoping this is related to my specific issue (an issue I have been told I'm not alone in having) and this quagmire can finally be fixed.

The issue is fixed right now. Finally fixed itself after my 5th hard shutdown last night.
