So, Cortana is beyond useless and now my Xbox won't read my external drive!

What is it with microsoft software these days. Even this web page is glitchy as can be on my windows 10 phone for crying out loud. Just had an update that added Cortana, and now all the voice commands don't work. Some still will if you cringe through having
to say 'hey cortana' instead of the nice simply 'xbox' command, that's wasn't broke and didn't need fixing, but it's beyond slow and I've stopped trying to use it now. So that's really got my goat, but on top of that, the console siimply refuses to recognise
my external had now, and I've tried all sorts, resetting the console and unplugging it etc. The console knows it's been plugged in as it then refreshes my games list, but it won't read the drive at all.

Anyone any ideas, because right now I feel like grabbing my considerable stack of Microsoft kit and just throwing the lot out the window.

Problems with external hard drive with my Xbox one

After a dashboard update more than a year ago my WD MY Book 2tb external hard drive stopped working. It actually erased my profile from xbox. I spoke with support and we factory reset the xbox to no avail. I finally got my profile back after an angry
6 hour day of fiddling, but now anytime I try to plug the external hard drive in it shuts my xbox off. I tried to reformat using my laptop and my 360, no luck. If the hd is plugged in the xbox one won't even turn on. What the hell? It's been more than
a year and no solution. Is there a fix in the works or should I just throw out this hd? Is there a hard drive that works with the "new" update without all these issues? I'm hesitant to buy another external hd, because of this issue and the lack of response/fix
from MS. Stop updating the damn dashboard unless you know it won't render costly additional storage useless. I spent $80 on a hard drive that is useless now.

 

Agreed, this "Hey Cortana" is just awful. Not only is it long winded. It's slow and half of the commands now just end up opening an Internet search.

I've disabled Cortana, there doesn't seem to be a way to turn the old "Xbox" commands back on. So now I'm totally without voice commands. Is there a way of going back once agreeing to Cortana?

maybe they will add the normal commands back as a option instead of the new ones alot of people are not liking it

 

Why even make it hey Cortana, does Ms really think people live how they're portrayed in those marketing adverts? Even Cortana would have done, but I think all the old commands need to be reinstated, and if you want to search, just say 'cortana, search for......'
followed by whatever your looking for.

Anyone else having the external drive issue. Mine was flashing half the night last night as I was trying to sleep, but the console refuses I read the games that are/were on it.

That way the right people will see your post & you'll see a lot of people share the same concerns/problems with Cortana
