Sneaking Up On You Next Week "Stranger Of Sword City"

This JRPG Dungeon Crawler debuts on the XBox ONE next week.

It plays a little like your old school dungeon crawlers with the fights playing out like early Final Fantasy games (i.e. big boss floating in front of you, your move attacks, a swipe animation goes over the monster, it shudders and loses health).

You move around like you're navigating the Crypt in "Mortal Kombat" but the whole experience has been given a current gen polish.

One interesting if somewhat strange twist is the character styles. You can have it in "Classic Style" or "New Style".

One has more of an Anime look to it. The other has more of a Soul Calibur look to it.

Same trailer... different looks to the characters (character style has no impact on gameplay).

So it might be different but is it any good?

Well... the developers are so confident they're giving you an 8 hour trial.

If you don't care for it, no worries. Delete it.

If you like it... then all the progress you've made, characters you've made, gear you've acquired and achievements you've unlocked will carry over to the main game.

Sneaks up on the US on 22nd and in Europe on the 29th.

Stranger of Sword City

Well I over exaggerated a bit on the portraits. Seems to be a bit more toned down on the next couple of pages of them. The game is kind of strange. I mean you got this weird navigation where its just menu hubs. Like a list of places then it takes you to a static background where some 2d npc is such as a shop or the guild leader, or maybe you go to the overworld then navigate to a dungeon, and the dungeon is just a 'dungeon master' style moving around block by block. Combat is also menus mostly, nothing active there.

I guess I was drawn to it by it looking like it was stat-heavy (I like to get into that stuff) and the free demo, but although I could see myself playing this a bit longer in the demo at least, I wonder just how much deeper and more varied it can possibly get, as if this is essentially it, just basically spam the same attacks or actions every round, I'd get bored.

Would be nice to hear from someone who has actually played it much further. The only person on my friends/followed list who has 'played' it, is P3 or Phil Spencer and even then he only started it up for 1 minute lmao.

Just wondering if anyone has played the Xbox One edition before and what you think about it? I'm currently downloading the demo right now.

Looks ok. Do you know if there's any voice acting and if it's in English?

Yes there is voice acting.

Not sure if it's in English as so far the only available footage is from the Japanese version so far.

We should know soon though.

The XBox ONE version has received some decent reviews on Metacritic so far with an overall rating of 82%.

It's different and apparently the developers know how to make a good Dungeon Crawler.

 

Was playing for a couple hours last night. It's hard in the beginning didn't get any game overs but main character was dying a lot. The loot you get you cant see the stats for until you leave the dungeon which is fine but even then was having hard time
deciding whether it's better than what I had equipped because the numbers it shows don't really make sense to me

 

Anyone other than me playing this? If so I need help where do you find bird with golden liver? Think I fought it but didn't get the liver and can't get it to come back been trying for hours

 

Unfortunately there has been no "preview" edition like you guys got in the states.

Should release in the UK tomorrow.

Will be able to join you in the dungeon then.
