Sneaking Up On You In February... Arslan: The Warriors Of Legend

Some people think "Dynasty Warriors" games are all the same.

    But they're not.

Some installments have been dull, repettative and poor... but when they get it right... they are fantastic.

What could be cooler than swathing through thousands of enemies as you unleash a path of death and destruction to all who dare oppose you?

"Dynasty Warriors" meets "Fire Emblem" meets "Bladestorm" as the standard "Dynasty Warriors" formula gets a cell shaded Anime facelift that just looks absolutely gorgeous.

    :)

Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate, is it a good game?

These games used to be very rinse and repeat and would get trashed in reviews for years.

But with "Warriors Orochi" and "Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3", "Warriors: Legends Of Troy" and "The Fist Of The North Star 2: Ken's Rage" these games started to step out of the shadow of being "Rinse and Repeat" clones like EA Sports Titles offering more variety
of action, secondary characters that are really fun to play and twists and expansion on a format that was like flogging a dead horse.

The "Dynasty Warriors" series itself pulled up it's socks in turn through offering village management and a pet Tiger that will bite your enemies face off.

"Arslan: Warriors Of Legend" is based on "The Heroic Legend Of Arslan" fantasy novel that was then made into a popular manga and anime centred round the Persian Empire instead of medieval China or Japan.

By taking the story away from the Romance Of The Three Kingdoms, improving gameplay, innovating and creating polished titles Tecmo Koie has really transformed these games and if you haven't played one in a while they very much deserve a 2nd look.

You know what else is sneaking up in February? My 41st birthday on the 1st. Yikes!!

This game looks like a decent button masher. Nice graphics, but games like this get boring to me rather quickly.

Yeah, some installments have been a bit mind numbing.

But they have really upped their game with "Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3", "Warriors: Orochi" and "Dynasty Warriors 8".

They added more movement options, different types of attacks and for variety, different weapon types.

Then throw in animals that can accompany you in battle... (I was particularly impressed with "Giant Tiger That Will Eat Your Enemies" in DW 8) and the Unit Attacks of "Bladestorm" and you do get a game that can hold your attention and goes above and beyond
    your traditional hack n slash.

Most of the in game screens I've seen have been in Japanese but it looks like this one will allow you to not only switch to different weapon types but allow you to progress the development of certain weapons.

I've read on the interweb that there's been a demo for PS 4. It might even still be there.

This is a weird old series for me.Some of them I can sit there for hours on end & not get bored yet other ones last about half an hour & i'm bored.

Will no doubt give this one a go at some point though.

I hadn't heard of this game. I imagine you'll play as Daryun. Could be fun.

So why doesn't this game exist on the Xbox one? I have already completed it(picked it up yesterday) but I can not view achievements or recorded clips. I searched for it in the Xbox store, could not find it. Really would like to know what the deal is.

Game's not officially out yet so it wont show your achievements or recorded clips.

It was there for pre order on the U.K. store, don't know if it still is.

And the day has finally come.

Launched without much fanfare or hype but those who enjoy the series are saying it does what it does really well.

Should be waiting for me when I get home.

    So much to play.

So I've had a chance to give this a proper go tonight and it's a great looking game that's fun to play.

At it's beginnings at least it follows your standard Dynasty Warriors game... big map, accomplish certain objectives on the battlefield to win.

It's not the micromanagement nightmare that past Dynasty Warriors games have been (they would often have you desperately legging it to far flung corners of the maps to save Commander "X" and General "Y").

The same regular / strong / super attacks are there but it throws in the addition of a "very strong" attack with RB. Block and dodge mechanics work well and a good command of the LB button will prevent the camera from becoming a muddle.

Combos work well. They have a fluid flow. You can put it on easy and bash your way through but once you realise how the weapons work it's easy to put the combos into practice. You'll quickly find yourself in control of your attacks and knowing what your
input will create and fighting with control and style rather than hammering X and Y until the super meter fills up and going for B.

Weapons evolve and you can wield more than 1 of them, in fact, you can chain 2 together for a more devastating combo.

There's a card system which can be applied as buffs (you can only hold 3 at a time) and these in turn can be buffed and evolved just like your weapons.

Throw in an ability to rally your troops into a devastating charge that lets you sweep accross the battlefield and gamewise you've got what probably represents the best of what has worked in recent Dynasty Warriors history.

Throw in the absolutely gorgeous anime style and a story that doesn't lose anything in translation to a Western Audience and you've got a pretty good game here.

    Definately.

Takes what's been working best in newer titles and fine tuning it with positive results.

This game has some beautiful animation.

For a game based on a Japanese Manga / Anime it's fairly easy to follow too since you don't need a crash course in the hstory of Hokuto Shinken, Ninjitsu, Jutsus or Ninpo.

It's a little like Game of Thrones without dragons.
