    Smartglass streaming / remote play.

    Hey guys.

This seems like a pretty straightforward solution to having remote/offscreen play (at least in your home wifi network where your console is), without having to create new hardware. It's just streaming video to the tablet device, the controller would
still be connected to the console.

As for playing far away, maybe the controller could connect to the tablet, which could connect via 3G/4G to the home console. Thoughts?

Xbox One/SmartGlass & Win 8-10 Users... Vote if this for you!

Feature Feature Request: Snappable Windows SmartGlass becomes remote automatically when snapped
Rather than have the snapped SmartGlass app become useless as it currently does... Here, the Snappable SmartGlass becomes a remote automatically when the app is snapped. With tab or toggle options to switch between Xbox Remote and Xbox Live TV Universal Remote. An option for which remote shows by default could also be of good use!

    Added Photoshop visual aids:
    http://i59.tinypic.com/33o6tz4.jpg Universal Remote 1
    http://i59.tinypic.com/34t93tl.jpg Universal Remote 2
    http://i61.tinypic.com/34errbp.jpg Universal Remote 3
    http://i59.tinypic.com/160v5tt.jpg Xbox Remote
    http://i62.tinypic.com/208tmp1.jpg Recent Channels

These visuals should help convey the idea adequately...
The Universal Remote scrolling method used on the Android SmartGlass could be employed here, allowing the user to 'swipe up/down' moving through the remote's sections. Swiping left or right would give access to: The universal remote (left), Recent Channels (Center), or Xbox Remote (Right).

Again, if the user is streaming TV to SmartGlass, it should remain viewable (as seen here) whenever SmartGlass is snapped

Seems like it would be too much of a hassle to me.

  5. Remote play may actually be possible atm (Havent gotten around to using smartglass on Laptop with controller connected). Though as for the streaming idea. Seems like a sound idea in theory. Connect to your home console on the go with a laptop and play with
your controller (assuming it works). Though weather that would be possible on anything but a laptop is questionable.. That much data streaming on a 3g/4g network seems rather costly over time (at least with the amount of time most of us spend with our console).
Also considering that there is no portable game system by Microsoft I personally will support this idea.

  6. Wouldn't there be some sort of delay or lag doing this though?

Swordstyle, hassle for who - Microsoft engineers or for you? If you don't feel like using it, i'm sure there are many others who would like to.

Karch V amadeo, the idea was actually intended for tablets. Send an encoded video stream to the device (within your home network), the Xbox controller is already connected to the console, so all you're doing is viewing a stream of the gameplay and audio on
    the tablet.

As for real remote play, i.e. outside on a 3G/4G connection, this requires more thought.

I imagine there would be latency issues to work out, but at the moment, what other way to Microsoft have of filling a feature gap right now? It seems to be the easiest way somehow. Sony have the Vita, Nintendo have the Wii U gamepad, we could use tablet devices.

    Smartglass streaming / remote play.

Obviously a hassle for me. I don't care about anyone else it would be a hassle for. And I'm not saying it shouldn't be done. I'm just stating my opinion on the matter. Because, you know, this is a discussion board.

  9. Within a home network a tablet seems like a great option. Outside its a bit questionable. Like GG said, there will be lag unless there is a proper connection. 3G/4G are okay for minor data transactions but large scale it fails miserably. Their servers are
made more for videos and text but for responsive applications over distance it literally kills your connection. In a home setting the idea seems possible and probable. Outside home it gets a bit tricky but it is still possible. More so considering how apt
Microsoft is to have their products used by the mass (Bought touchscreen laptop partially because of smartglass app).

Well my Surface connects to my Xbox via Smartglass, and I've been able to use a 360 pad with my Surface for a long time. The ingredients are there. I hope Microsoft bring remote play as it is a great feature.

Even on my home network, there is noticeable (but minor, minor) input lag between my PS4 and Vita. I regularly hear from my friends about flawless connections in random Starbucks and 4G connections, so I suppose anything is possible

    Smartglass streaming / remote play.

I'd rather play how I currently do. Unless remote play offered the same benefits of a second console its useless to me.

isn't there a range limit on how far the controller can be from the One? So to resolve this issue there would need to be some sort of input on the tablet to accept the controller signal. PING would be terrible. I don't see this being viable with current
    technology. Notice I said current...

The main reason people would want remote play is because they want to play on the go. And a tablet dosn't have the control options. If you have to conect a controller to your tablet that makes it just about useless and not very portable.

And carying around a X1 controller in your pocket will not be good for your social life.
