    Smart or not?

    Hey fellow gaming enthusiasts,

I am buying a new Samsung TV to replace my old Ssung 1080i 32inch.

    My preference is going to be a Samsung 48inch smart which I believe is 100hertz? ($1300 from JB Hifi}

Now with the fact, that the Xbox1 has a dashboard full of apps & other stuff, do I really need a Smart TV? Are there any other benefits to going "smart", or should I save my money & buy a regular model?

I am not that Tech savy, so any opinions, comments, & any other recommendations are all welcome.

    Kind regards

    Graeme. (Brisbane Au)

    :)

Smart TV question with Xbox One

We need a new TV, and I was thinking of buying a Samsung smart TV. However, I am also thinking about buying an XBOX One. Should I bother getting a smart tv, or would the smart tv features be a waste because the XBOX one would have all those features (like
streaming, web browsing, etc). In summary, if you have an XBOX one, is there any reason to buy a smart tv? Or should I buy a non-smart TV? (Although the smart tvs are not much more expensive than the non smart tvs. )

XBOX One and Samsung Smart TV

The wired or wireless connection is handled through your router, not the Samsung Smart TV. Samsung Smart TV has nothing to do with Xbox One. Connect the Xbox One directly to your wireless or wired router, not your Samsung Smart TV.

I bought a sony 55" led due to it having better input lag then most tv's, samsungs have around 44ms input lag, I'm sure you could get better gaming tv's for a lower price, as for the 100hertz, make sure there is a game mode or you will most likely notice
    ghosting

There are some apps that are currently available on the Samsung Smart TV that I have my Xbox One hooked up to that I cannot get throug Xbox One (HBOGO, UFC Fight Pass and some others that I cannot think of right now.)

That's going to depend on the TV, but it probably won't have much that the Xbox doesn't. Personally I wouldn't worry about getting a smart TV and I'd just get a Roku if you really need more channels/content.

Samsung is one of the best brands in the TV business; my brother would tell you not to get any other brand. Smart or not? ;)

People call me crazy, but Samsung TVs seem to have this buffer thing going on with them.

It's as if the movement on screen looks like a home movie and it's really weird. I noticed it a long time ago and ppl keep going "What!??! I don't see anything."

But it's there. We bought a Vizio 55 inch with this buffer thing that does the same thing and the guy at Best Buy said most HDTVs have that sort of thing now, but you can turn it off.

Have a Sony KDL40EX720 which I saved up and got from Sony Style in my city 2011 end. It weighs only 10kg including with the stand, LED Full HDTV 1080p ANTI-GLARE coated display which means it doesn't reflect like a mirror something I've seen Samsung TV's
do. And 4, not only 3... HDMI ports and 2 USB ports and Wi-Fi. Actually when I got my KDL40EX720 for NZ$1399 (normal RRP back then was $1999) I got the free Wi-Fi USB dongle and a free high speed Sony HDMI 1m cable and free delivery and installation.

It's smart as long as it's got a good picture processor, display, and a bunch of web apps or a web browser. I practically NEVER use the apps on my HDTV. Xbox Live is a better place for apps. I would have gone for Samsung but their are no Samsung retail stores
in NZ. Offices yes but unlike Sony who has Sony Style stores in my country, no "Samsung" stores. Samsung and Sony are both good brands.

I have a smart LG. Smart features I use are Mirracast (For beaming my Kindle screen to the TV) and the Netflix and Amazon Instant apps. Since Xbox One already has those two apps, I'd say that they are somewhat wasted. Smart 3D TV is another matter, but if
you go Xbox One a regular full HD TV will do nicely.

Samsung makes a lot of chassis for other TV brands. There were making them for Sony but I think Sharp makes them now, at least the last time I checked.

I just purchased a Samsung 55" Smart TV with game mode, great TV.
