Small noise from Xbox One S while turned off

Hi there!

I own a Xbox One S for 6 months and it works very fine, but a small problem occurs once I turn it off.

If I let the console plugged, but shut it down, a very small noise can be heard from the inside. That noise is almost inaudible unless you get your ear very close to the console, and it sounds like a scratching or a light purr. When the console is running,
I do not pay attention the noise it makes, and I do not know if it keeps doing it, mostly because of the cooler.

However, when I unplug the console from the socket, or remove the power cable directly, the console stops making this noise and become fully silent. I do believe this is the very first time such a noise appears since I have and use this Xbox One.

It seems other people already met with this situation. Is it also your case? Do you know exactly where this noise come from? I first believed it was the hard disk that could keep or start running, but I do not understand why it would run when the power cable
is plugged into the socket only.

In other words, in the case this means there is a real problem, what should I do?

For your information, I use to shut down the console directly from the parameter menu, and I use it on energy-saving mode.

Sure, uplug the console while active would not be a good idea - hopefully I always pulled out the plug after I shut down the console

Since you say you use it in energy saving mode, it probably is "coil whine" from the internal power supply.

Even though the console is in energy saving mode, it has to be able to be started from the wireless controller, so the console still has a few devices powered and in standby, so it can be started wirelessly.

If the noise you describe really is coil whine from the power supply or another wireless component that stays powered during energy saving mode, there really is nothing you can do about it, as the solutions from the article linked above are for PCs that
you can put into an insulated casing and the likes.

If the sound is really annoying you, the only option is then to unplug the console or put it on a

remote controlled outlet.

Thanks for your reply! The fact is the console is not in instant on mode but in energy-saving mode - would it be the same?
