Slow xbox one speeds

So right now i live in a house that has a small apartment attached to it and often i have relatives who come over and stay there. When they come over they connect to my internet but they have a separate router that they use to connect to my router. Whenever
they do this it slows down JUST my xbox one speeds the speeds of every other device remains the same. I play wireless and going wired isn't really an option for me. Im just wondering if anyone had any idea why their router would cause my xbox speeds to be
so slow.

A main factor in the speed along with slower internet speeds is the size of the update.

What's the reason for them to bring and connect an additional router?

What's the make and model of your router?

 

I believe what is happening is they are essentially bridging the connection, as your wifi may not reach 100% where they are staying.

When this happens, it draws speed away from your router.

Lets say your router was receiving 100% of the available connection, as soon as the 2nd router is attached through yours, now your splitting the connection, they receive 50%, you receive 50%.

You would most noticabley notice it on your Xbox first, as it takes quite a bit of the available Connection.

You can always logon to your routers configuration page, find the router they have atached, and limit its top speeds it can receive down to about 1/2, and then you can also select your xbox IP, and give it high priority permissions, so when your Xbox connects,
it receives the majority of the speeds over other devices.

 

Yea icedjkilla that makes sense the only problem is that my router doesn't offer QOS settings so i'm not sure what i can really do with out getting a new router.

 

To fully understand your situation, at least I would have to know the make and model of the networking device that your relatives uses to connect to your router. Along with the make and model of your wireless router, and modem (if this is not combined into
a single device).

 

If they need to extend wireless covereage into areas that are "grayed" out, why don't they, for simplicity, use HomePlug. Which take use of your existing powerlines and to feed off Ethernet.

 

Taidara my router is the "Airport Extreme" and my modem is the "Motorola Surfboard SB6120" im not sure exactly what router they have but i think the brand is "Arcadyan"

 

Also , they could have QoS services enabled.. This would allow them to place priority over other wireless/wired connections..

I would also set the Xbox One to have its own dedicated I.P as well as place it into the DMZ zone , as this will open all ports for the Xbox One to use..
