    Slow UI / Shutdown using external storage


    I have multiple xbox one consoles and when I use an external Seagate expansion drive 5tb, as I load more games I notice the xbox UI gets slower and slower when going to my games and apps and in particular when I hold down the jewel button to shutdown it
    literally takes 10 - 15 seconds to give me the shutdown prompt.

    I've tried multiple external drives on multiple xbox's and eventually the same thing starts to happen.

    Is there a solution for this? Is it an issue with Seagate drives?

    I have 2x Seagate 1TB Slim external HDDs (one for Xbox 1, the other to back up my videos and pictures on my PC). And my Xbox 1 recognizes BOTH. What sort of external HDD's are you using? People should stop bashing the new Windows 10 UI on Xbox 1. It's way
    faster to navigate the Windows 10-like UI on Xbox 1 than that Windows 8 UI hunk which is considerably slower at loading stuff than the new UI which Xbox 1 has.

    Family Timer and Powering Off the Xbox

    just wondering if your using Kinect? if you do, any movement that the kinect picks up will reset the timer for auto shutdown when idle.

    Also any Controller thats connected to the console via the play and charge kit wont enable the auto idle shutoff even if its turned on.

    Not sure if your using an external Hard drive for storage but i think that also affects the auto shutdown when its pluged in?

    New system update available to everyone. It's the one with the new UI (Feb. 24, 2020)

    I am happy with the how quick the new UI is, but tbh after so long of having it horizontal I am just used to it. Smart Storage is a nice touch and being able to just move to external storage is handy too.

    Do you know if the missing games are on internal or external storage? It sounds like the Xbox is not seeing the external drive. Try unplugging your external storage and doing a full shutdown of the Xbox. While it is off, plug in the external drive and then
    turn the Xbox back on. Go to Settings > System > Storage and see if the drive is there. From there you can also view the content of both internal and external drives.

    sending a simple message is INCREDIBLY SLOW!

    The reason why the UI is slow is because the UI is allmost all web based, by this I mean you download from the internet all of the information that makes your UI yours. It's this that allows you to sign in to other people's Xbox One and have your UI on
    their console.

    If your playing online at the time, the game will be using a lot of your bandwidth, slowing your UI down.

    Any external storage that you’re using is too slow to play a series X or S game. The game must be on the internal storage that is exponentially faster in order to work. You can play games from previous generations from the hard drive, and use the hard drive for long-term storage

    Sorry to hear you're experiencing this. Perhaps the issue is with storage. With 900+ DLC packages the game can take up quite a bit of room.

    Perhaps try adding an external storage device if you are not currently using one. You can use a USB 3.0 device ranging in size from 256GB - 16TB in size for external storage. Hopefully, when added, you can put the game and DLC on that and no longer experience
    these slow downs.
