Picking up my X1 this afternoon. Would it be better (or even possible) to install game by powering on for the first time and not hooking up to the network?

This is just my guess, so keep that in mind, but I think the tile showing the status of the install may be combining the download and install to disk into one percentage bar. I'm hoping that's why it's taking a while to install BF4. I'm only on 7Mb internet.

It was downloading updates as well. Install the disc while in offline mode to make it go much quicker. Get a better ISP so it doesn't take as long to download the updates.

It should of been half that time including the updates.

  5. It's normal if your ISP sucks. I'd give up gaming on any console if that's the case.

I've seen it suggested that it is advisable to decline any updates to a game under installation as this will slow down the install.. The game will prompt/offer the update the next time you start it...

  7. 24-48 is usually typical for xbox one games, based on what I've read. Xbox one is purposely designed to be terrible (otherwise, why would computer people design a system that takes literally days to access or use....even the Atari 2600 was useable out of
the box). I am returning and exchanging for a PS4.

Even the Atari 2600 was usable out of the box. In 1982. You have to wait almost two days for most xbox one games to work. That shows how much microsoft engineering has regressed. NASA engineers in the 60s were landing people on the moon, and microsoft can't
even figure out how to get a simple game system to work.

  9. You can check the speed at which it is currently downloading. If it is far from the speed of your internet, then it is not normal. The time it takes will be based on how big the game is with any updates and the speed of your internet. Just like downloading
    anywhere else.

You can also do a little test in the Network option. See if that shows a speed that comes close to what you have.

If you still feel it isnt downloading at the speed you have from your ISP, then i would ask Xbox Support on Twitter if they know anything. They are usually fast and very helpfull.

@ FineCypress35,your correct,24-48 minutes is about normal for a game to install, depends on the size of the game, any updates, whether you are updating at the same time as installing, your broadband speed etc etc.

Have fun on the PS4,maybe you can play your Atari while it's updating & installing games just like the xbox one does.

24 - 48 hours is not typical as well you know. most games I've installed take about half an hour, sometimes more if there is a huge day one patch.

The problem these days is that patches/updates are now regularly in the Gigabytes range, whereas in the days of the 360 they were very rarely over a few hundred meg. Therefore if someone doesn't have superfast broadband, they will have problems, is it the
    Xbox One's fault? no.

Lol. It took 2 days for Fallout 4, and 3 days for the Witcher, to download unto the PS4 on my friends "less than optimal" internet connection. Haven't really had a problem with X Box downloads until the Modern Warfare Remaster (72Gb.)...believe it has more
to do with the servers as it keeps pausing.

Funny how the first to blame is MS and their xbox? If one has any logic or understnding the first to blame would be the developers. They could release a game on disc that has been thoroughly tested and is fairly bug free. Next, blame all of the gamers who
buy (and blindly pre-order) games that are buggy messes, thus giving publishers incentive to keep releasing buggy mess. Next, is your isp provider, do you have decent speeds? Is your router equipment setup properly? Next, did you research prior to buying a
console this gen? If so, you should already know that all discs must be downloaded onto a HDD before playing and your internet should meet minimums suggested. Finally (after going through all the above) realize that during the holidays certain servers are
going to be impacted by the overload of new systems being hooked up (this is a known issue, and has been such for years). If you bought a xbox one thinking it would be exactly like the 360, then you did NO research, that's on you, sorry. Happy Holidays!

  14. Ps4 downloads and installs games wayyy faster then Xbox one does. Usually I just turn the system in rest mode and it downloads patches super quick. Took halo 5 forever to install and update..

Installing Ghosts.........20 minutes gone ...1% completed. But I believe it has to do a 1224 MB Title Update too so maybe it has that done and is now installing the game. I'm not sure. Its quite confusing to know what exactly is going on.

2% now. Maybe 1 hour will do all :)
