Slow downloads

Ever since purchasing my Xbox one it has had incredibly slow download speed. It is connected by Ethernet to my router, and even with all other devices disconnected still only downloads at an average speed of less than 1mbps.

I have a reasonably fast broadband connection from Sky, and all other connected devices download speed is fine. I've even checked to see if neighbours are stealing my connection but no evidence of this either.

What makes things worse is that I'm only a casual user, probably only use my Xbox a couple of times a week, if that, so I very often find that when I switch on the Xbox it needs to download and install updates before I continue. Due to the terrible download
speed this takes over two hours for some updates, and by the time updates have been applied I've either lost interest in playing or am occupied with something else.

It's not only downloading updates and games, but other functions like streaming are affected as the slow download rate means that video or music is constantly buffering. I also find that while the Xbox is updating all my other connected devices are next
to useless as the Xbox is hogging all the bandwidth.

This issue has rendered my Xbox virtually useless, I'm considering getting rid and never getting another Xbox again if this is to continue. I don't hear many complaints from PS4 owners with the same issue. Pointless having all that state of the art technology
if it's not useable.

SLOW DOWNLOADS

Just bought Mass Effect Game on Demand through XBOX Live. The download is incredibly slow, maybe 1% every few minutes. I know the download is close to 7 gigs, but I downloaded a 2 gig demo just two days ago in a bout 5-10 minutes. I have a cable internet
connection (8.5Mbps) and the xbox is wired directly to the router. I just watched a netflix movie on the xbox without any problems (as expected the game download paused), so I know the internet connection is fine.

In terms of trouble shooting, I've canceled and restarted the download. I've also cleared out the memory on my console and cleared the system cache, restarted the console and restarted the download. Still no improvement.

Is the slow download related to XBOX Live service disruption?

Are you using WiFi connection or wired connection to connect to Xbox Live?

Basically your download speed depends on your internet download speed.

It your internet is not a High Speed Internet service, it may take some time to finish your download. If you have a High Speed Internet, try using wired connection.

 

what is the modem and router you are using ? (brand and model #'s) some don't play well with xbox one , especially after the last update ... if possible , try a different network , or create a hotspot with your phone and see if anything changes.....

 

It's a Sky branded Sagem router, it is about 5 years old so could probably do with a new one. Do you know if the routers Sky provides currently are any good with Xbox, or is there a particular recommended model?

 

There is a chance you may need to reset your router to factory if you havent already, also you may need to consider port forwarding to your Xbox One.

As mentioned above, you may need to replace your router at the worst case, I have had strict nat issues myself before, but have just had to restart router and it has fixed it.

 

Its microsofts servers dude trust me, go get your money back and buy a PC.

Customer service will only lead you to some BS and try to persuade you. Then after your convinced its on your end the servers start working flawlessly when you have changed nothing. F that. Go get something that works bro.

 

Lastly what makes it worse is when down detector (a site specified in keeping up with server statuses) is more reliable than their own down detector.
