Slow download speeds Xbox Store

Hi,

I've got a PC and an XBOX One connected to the same network - even the same switch.

When downloading from Store, the XBOX can't really get past around 28 mbit/sec. If I download from the Windows Store on my PC, it easily rips past 80-90 mbit/sec. My conneciton is 100/100 fibre.

Speedtest on the XBOX says 97 down / 92 up - why the huge difference in download on the XBOX and the PC then?

Note again: Both are on the same wired network, and the very same switch. I ofc. don't download anything on the PC when I'm DL'ing on the XBOX...

slow updates

A main factor in the speed along with slower internet speeds is the size of the update.

Connection Issues

Hi Corn, out of curiosity are you experiencing really slow (like 1mbs) downloads from the store or updates yet it speed tests correctly?

I was testing earlier as someone else was having slow speeds... the XBox App, for me, gives me downloads speeds around 10% of my maximum line speed, as opposed to the STore which runs at 80-90%.

Try downloading the game/s from the Store direct and see what speeds you get

Thank you for your prompt response.

I followed your instructions and was getting pretty much the same download test results with each port I tried.

When I went back to check my download progress of my game and updates I saw that my usual speed had returned (around 95Mbps) instead of the dial up speeds I was getting when downloading.

Hello, DerrickM71. Thanks for reaching out! My name is Lucas. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user just like you. I'll be happy to assist you today.

Please go to Settings > Network settings > Advanced settings > DNS settings > Select manual.

It will ask you to manually fill your primary and secundary DNS IP. Try with these two combinations to see which one performs better:

Primary: 1.1.1.1 / Secundary: 1.0.0.1

Primary: 8.8.8.8 / Secundary: 8.8.4.4

After that, on the same screen, go to Alternate MAC address > Clear > Restart. This will restart your console.

After the restart, go to Network settings again > Advanced settings > Alternate port selection. Try with each one of the ports and see which one gives you a better download and upload speed.

To test your connection (after changing ports and/or DNS), just click on "Test network speed" on your Network settings page.

I have done some checking today, downloading things from the Xbox App and MS Store on a network connection that has a maximum of 78MB/s:

MS Store: Download speeds, once they get going, maintain a speed of between 55 and 65MB/s. 80-90% of my maximum speed is acceptable

Xbox App: Download Speeds maintain a speed of between 5-8MB/s.

The XBox App I tried about an hour after trying on the MS Store today so no major difference. Given how buggy and poor the Xbox App is, am not surprised.

Of course, this doesn't help with your slow speeds via the MS Store!
