    Slay the Spire Crashing / Suspending on Start Up


    Hi there!

    I've just resubscribed to the xbox game pass and was looking forward to playing Slay the Spire on my laptop, but it doesn't work.

    When I launch the app one of two things will happen depending on whether I launch as an admin:

    1. The game will not launch. It will appear in task manager, ramp up to 20-30% cpu usage, but it then gets a green leaf icon and disappears.
    2. A black window (maybe 600x400 pixels) will appear with Slay the Spire as the window header, it will stop responding, in task manager the game will ramp up to 20-30% cpu usage, acquire a greef leaf icon, then drop to 0% cpu usage and sit there.
    It does not matter whether I launch the app through the Xbox application or the start menu.

    I have tried adjusting my pc power settings, both while plugged in and unplugged. I have ensured Slay the Spire is set to run in background. I have gone into my battery settings and unchecked "let windows decide when this app can run in the background",
    unchecked "reduce the work the app can do in the background", and checked "allow the app to run background tasks". I have tried repairing, and reinstalling. I have set my laptop in the xbox game pass as an offline machine. I have tried launching the game and
    not touching my PC so that Windows hopefully doesn't think STS is a background app.

    No matter what Slay the Spire gets the "This UWP process group is suspending to improve system performance" icon and dies before it can even get to a loading screen, or any screen at all aside from that blank black box.

    I've tried to figure out how to disable the UWP suspension system but to no avail.

    The only troubleshooting steps I have found but not tried are:

    1. Reinstalling window, I'd prefer not to do this
    2. Run app in compatibility mode, I know how to do this normally but not with UWP apps
    3. Re-registering the app through powershell, I don't know what command to use for Slay the Spire (https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3175-reinstall-re-register-apps-windows-10-a.html#option2)

    I really want to play Slay the Spire but Windows seems to be telling me no. Any help is appreciated.

    Hi JefferyWalsh,

    Couple suggestions that helped me fix an issue similar to yours.

    1) Make sure your windows time and date are set correctly

    2) Uninstall and then Reinstall and the Xbox Services App on your laptop

    Windows Key+X > Windows Powershell (Admin) > Copy the below, paste into Powershell > Enter

    Get-AppxPackage -allusers *XboxApp* | Remove-AppxPackage

    3) Roll back to an older version of Windows ie. Version 1903.

    4) If all else fails, unsitalling and reinstalling the game may fix this issue.
