    Skype with Kinect video


    I Skype with my son in Japan using XBox One and Kinect. During Skyping, the video goes dark on my end (I can see them, they cannot see me), but audio still works fine both ways. The video icon is crossed out, but I cannot turn it back on with the controller.
    The only way to get it back on is to hang up and restart the Skype video session. Only to have the same thing happen again and again. This is very aggravating. I have reinstalled skype, recalibrated the Kinect, checked all connections to make sure they are
    tight. I have been using this system for about 9 months with no problem, and now in the last month it has been happening everytime we try to skype. Is there anything else I can try, or should I contact Microsoft about a faulty Kinect?

    Xbox 360 and Skype?

    Actually, I'm pretty sure they will eventually replace Video Kinect with Skype. Since with Video Kinect you can video chat with someone who's using their laptop via LIVE Messenger. So replacing that with Skype shouldn't be hard.

    Will the new SDK turn off follow on Skype?

    As I understand, Kinect features can only be disabled by the game when it is running in the foreground.

    Which means:

    If you play a game and have Skype video snapped to it, then the video will not be able to use those Kinect features that are turned off by the game.

    If you use Skype in full-screen mode, all Kinect features will work fine, including tracking.

    In other words, Skype video experience may indeed be limited, if you are running a game that is turning off Kinect features. Otherwise, the update will not have any negative effect on Skype.

    Why cant they just keep both kinect video and Skype options ya know but Skype is allot better quality imo.

    Skype service was available on 360 for awhile, about half a year to a year ago they took it off. You were even able to make skype calls using the xbox Kinect. The New Kinect will be able to do video chat as well as camera related items. in fact, you can
    pull up Skype directly on the side of your game to video chat while you play. The current kinect had skype, but for reasons unknown to me, they decided to remove that functionality. just wait for the xbox one, it is better in every way to the current generation.
