Skype blackmailers using xbox live to lure victims

Be wary of certain users who may wish to skype with you. This past week, me and many of my friends were befriended by a player who appeared to be female, and despite having a mic and headset she never spoke. This player would only communicate through messages.
Eventually the player would ask one of our individual friends to skype. This turned out to be a classic skype blackmail scam. The skype video (most likely a prerecorded video) showed an attractive woman in her underwear who didn't have a working mic, and quickly
turned sexual as she began undressing. She would then ask the victim to undress and **** in front of the camera. Most of us were able to recognize this right away. However, a few of our friends took the bait and **** on camera. The scammer then showed them
that the entire video had been recorded and they threatened to release the video unless the victims payed money.

As I said, this is the classic skype blackmailing scam. Typically the scammer will use a fake profile picture of a very attractive woman and will message you for a while until developing a bit of a friendship. These scammers are very convincing at making it
seem that they are a genuine person. They will seem so convincing that you wouldn't even consider the idea they might not be who they say they are.

The major signs someone is a skype blackmailer:

1. They have a mic and headset but never speak, and only community via messages

2. They will build a friendship with you and eventually ask you to skype with them

3. When it comes time to skype, they will give some sort of excuse as to why their mic doesn't work (this is because the person on the screen isn't a live video feed)

4. The scammer will turn things sexual very quickly over skype

5. The scammer will then ask you to get naked and **** (and they will ask you to lower the camera so that they can see you)

1. If you find yourself in this situation, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES get naked and **** over skype. I would suggest not even skyping to begin with. Some skype blackmailers have used photoshop when their victims refused to undress.

2. If you have fallen for the scam and are currently being blackmailed, DO NOT respond to them and CUT OFF ALL TIES with the scammer IMMEDIATELY. Block them on Skype, xbox, and anywhere else they may have friended you. Make sure to also set any of your social
media accounts to the most private settings you can find. They often use social media to find out who your family members are.

3. Finally, don't pay them the money they are demanding. if you read up about skype blackmailers, most of them will move on once they realize the victim isn't going to pay up.

I waned to post this here because it seems to be a recent development which Microsoft needs to crack down on, and players need to be made aware of.
