Skype and Microsoft accounts merged, how to get back to my usual Xbox account?

Easiest is unlinking your wrong Skype account from your Microsoft account from your computer's browser. Follow the instructions here:

After unlinking you can start the linking process again and pick the right Skype account this time around:

support.skype.com/.../how-do-i-merge-my-skype-and-microsoft-accounts

Unfortunately that didnt explain how to merge two accounts. the accounts were not merged when Microsoft acquired skype. I believe both accounts use the same email oddly enough as one I simply login with the username the other with the email. but both should be using the same email address. as I stated in the original post the issue is with skype, xbox, windows.

After looking at microsoft.com and my skype, it is confirmed that both accounts use the same email address. So this issue isn't on my end but on microsofts. Clearly when accounts were merged from acquiring skype, something went wrong.

I understand that you want to merge your two Xbox accounts and use a single phone number for authentication. However, I'm sorry to inform you that it is not possible to merge two Xbox accounts into one. Each account is unique and cannot be combined with another account.



Regarding the use of a single phone number for authentication, you can use the Microsoft Authenticator app to verify your identity for both accounts. However, you will need to set up the app separately for each account.



As for Skype, It is not possible to separate your Skype profile from your Microsoft account. See: How do I close my account for Skype? | Skype Support

It sounds like there's some kind of confusion between Skype accounts and Microsoft accounts. Sign in to Skype on the web with to unlink your accounts, and then you can re-launch Skype on Xbox One to link the Skype account you want to the Microsoft account
that you use on your Xbox.
