Xbox Live Gold membership is required for ALL online multiplayer. Game pass is only for basically renting games, and does not allow you to play online multiplayer.

To troubleshoot this if you have gold, see the following:

1. First see this page to make sure you have gold:

2. Then if you do, please remove and redownload your account:
http://support.xbox.com/my-account/manage-gamertag-and-profile/add-remove-account-xbox-one And before you redownload it please turn off your console and unplug it for 30 seconds.

3. If that does not fix it please contact Xbox support in a live chat to have them refresh your gold for you here:

Win you say you have a games membership, do you mean Gamepass?

You'll still need gold, but could you imagine how much more popular Gamepass would be if online gaming was included without a price increase or only a small price increase? It would explode.....

With the game pass you can only download the games on the pass but you can't play online for that you need a gold membership
