    Single Player vs Multiplayer

Let me begin by stating although I do prefer single player, there are some online multiplayer games I've loved.

With every new game that comes out they're putting so much emphasize into their online mode I literally feel like I'm missing a huge portion of the game, regardless if I want to play it online or not. It feels almost forced. I tend to shy away from
online modes because I enjoy playing at my own pace. I like to take my time, explore, mess around, complete side missions and take my time with the main story to savor it. However I do this to a fault, because there's been occasions where I've tired of a game
    before completing its main story.

I love games like Fallout and TES because there is no online mode and they're not taking away possible features and potential greatness from the sole game mode by putting so much effort into their multiplayer. I don't have that constant sense that I'm
missing out. I understand multiplayer is a great tool to keep the game from becoming repetitive and gives it enormous replay value, but some games I just don't want that. I know the online can be great and I've had a lot of fun with it in certain games, made
good memories, but I feel like the feature is forced onto the player, at times.

As absurd as it sounds, I sometimes hesitate trying the online feature because I know by now everyone is going to be well versed and highly placed in ranks or levels, etc and I'm going to be starting from the beginning at level 1. In a lot of games I've
played online the low ranking "new" players are huge targets. Probably a dumb thing to worry about.

However when it comes to local multiplayer, that's a different story entirely.

What's your opinion on the matter?

    :)

Single Player and MP are they different games?

Hey, wanted some advice on how Single player vs. multiplayer works. Are they two unique games, can I play the single-player and go back and forth between multiplayer? Or should I complete the single player game first, then do MP? Any advice would be appreciated,
    thanks!

  3. Bioshock Infinite won't have MP

^ Co-op is co-op. Vs multiplayer is vs multiplayer. Unibrow you have lost that debate literally every single time you brought it up on every single forum, every single thread. Mods even deleted your threads over and over again. You are never going to
win that losing battle. Just let it go and accept the fact that co-op is co-op and vs multiplayer is vs multiplayer. lol

For me it all depends on what content the online has.

I truly enjoyed the GTAV online as most of it was aimed towards team based co-op. Up the difficulty and you all get a great challenge when working together. I never touched the racing as other gamers bore me on how turd they are, the same went for death
    match and team death match.

You could have 100 games across 5 different genres, and only 1 in each genre from all will truly be enjoyed. Everything after that seems to be a day one hefty sale with pre-owned copies on the shelf by mid-week due to it being kack compared to what was previously
    available.

FPS: Call of Duty 4. Excellent sized maps which is only aged now by mechanics similar to those features in Deus Ex Human Revolution.

Racing: Forza 2. The game was amazing, and even though it didn't have the best selection of cars, what it set out to do it did very well. It gave plenty of freedom to the community to be creative, as well as the auction house which could be played as a game
    on its on.

Sandbox: I doubt GTAV will be beaten for years in terms of the online content available to gamers.

My situation is different. I'm an achievement gamer, but I won't play any old tat. But what I will not do is buy a game that is impossible to gain the 100% completion on due to servers being chopped, or hideous online achievement requirements. All that does
is kill the game for me, not prolong it.

If I had my way, the achievement system would only feature single player achievements. Only 2 things should prevent you achieving 100% completion. 1: The game is broken, in which case devs should fix it. 2: the game is very difficult. But thats down to the
gamer to be willing to invest time and gain skills for the game if they want 100%.

But with social media such a huge part of our lives these days. Online gaming can only get more popular and tedious as the years go on.

When I never had online gaming I used to dream how amazing it would be. Then when it happened you realise how limited it is and how stupid people are to not want you to play online anyway.

Yes, multiplayer is being shoehorned in a lot of titles that probably aren't a good fit for it. All in the name of keeping the disc in your possession. There's a lot of factors to this, really: developers don't want you to sell their game, publishers are
hoping to sell the game's DLC being the main ones I can think about.

As for me, I'm getting back into single player experiences, given that most of the online communities that play these games are pretty crappy in how they treat others. My experience, anyway. I tend to buy most games I have on sale nowadays so I don't feel
like I'm overpaying and titles that can wait to be played I usually do just that.

I really miss the days of solid local multiplayer with bots. I owned the Multitap accessory for PS2 so we could have up to 8 people playing on the system at one time. We had countless hours of fun and memories from running around in games killing each other
and killing the bots at the same time. The game that comes to mind is Medal of Honor: Rising Sun where we would always play on this map of an abandoned baseball field. It was so much fun.

I agree with everything you said.

I really like reading the stories and exploring the landscapes where possible. Many people I play with, love to fly right by everything to get the next main objective accomplished. So when I play with them, I feel like I'm holding them back if I don't try
    to keep up.

I do like online MP games. I think Dying Light does co-op pretty well. When you level up in your skill trees, they seem to make you more powerful. Not so much so that when you play with someone who hasn't leveled up you they can't contribute. (Hope that
makes sense, because it completely does in my head. lol)

Some games that are more popular MP type games I feel they kind of just throw in a SP campaign to appease the masses. And vice versa with other games. I do feel like SP sometimes gets less love in order to add MP to it.

  9. I prefer single player games with good setting and story but also like good mp. Though a lot of games only have one or the other. And alot games do shoehorn mp in when it's not needed Dead space 2,Batman arkham origins, bioshock 2.

  10. I remember back when the PS1 first arrived. It was when CGI and stories really started to take off in console gaming. I remember back then, mates would be talking about the action in the games available, but when I asked about the story and cutscenes, there
response was that they would just skip that stuff to play the game.

No depth, no plot required, no connection to characters, just blam-blam-blam. Those people are the online gamers. Devs and publishers love to create for them because everything is just a re-skin of the last game they released, and all they have to do is
give a couple of rounds where people can shoot each other.

When it comes to a game featuring SP & MP and giving 100% effort all round. I cannot fault the guys at Rockstar games. Bethesda is the king of SP gaming experiences, with the rare gem of a game from other devs every so often.

  14. While I prefer single player games I do love co-op game modes, such as Horde from Gears of War 2 (didn't like the version in 3.)

  15. Some single player campaigns are truly outstanding, RDR for example, which also had some good MP modes too.

As far as multi-player goes I much prefer co-op rather than PVP.
