Since update, HDMI audio won't handshake with AV receiver after standby

I've had my Xbox One console installed with an unchanged cabling configuration since Day One, and I never had this problem until the recent update, so I'm assuming this issue was somehow caused by the update.

    OS version is 10.0.14393.1018.

Cable connections: HDMI out from console to AV receiver, HDMI out from AV receiver to display. AV Receiver input set to HDMI with audio in "Direct" mode. AV receiver is Onkyo TX-NR709.

Whenever the console resumes from standby and turns on my AV receiver, the receiver is unable to handshake the audio signal. The front panel of the AV receiver does not display the 6 channel indicators and the "dts" logo that it does when audio is working
correctly. Video from the console is displays as expected, through the same HDMI connections.

The only successful workaround I've found so far is to Restart the console, then turn the AV receiver off and on again. If I do this, then my AV receiver's indicators light up, and I get audio. Just restarting either the console or the AV receiver does not
seem to be sufficient... it has to be both, in that order.

I've tried tweaking the console's Audio output settings, bot nothing seems to help. My current settings are HDMI audio: Bitstream out; Bitstream format: DTS Digital Surround. But other combinations fare no better.

    with

    :)

    Lost Digital Audio after Update

My wife turned on our Xbox yesterday and after starting up, was prompted to download an update. After installing the update, we lost all sound to my AV Receiver.

    My connections are as follows:

    • XBox 360 (Halo 3 Edition) connected to Yamaha HTR-6130 via HDMI

    • Yamaha HTR-6130 to Panasonic LED LCD TV via HDMI

Prior to the update, we never had any trouble with the XBox outputting Digital 5.1 surround to the receiver via HDMI. After the update, I only get sound via the Digital Stereo setting, passing through to my TV. Setting the Audio to any other digital setting
causes complete loss of sound, receiver and TV.

I've checked and double checked all other connections and settings on my devices (TV, XBox and Receiver) with no luck.

I don't know if this is a bug with the update or a new HDMI handshake problem with my receiver.

    Any help is much appreciated!

  3. Comcast HDMI-in w/ HDMI-out to projector, optical audio to AV receiver: no sound

    Greetings--

I have an older projector that does not handshake properly with my newer AV receiver (5.1 surround sound) via HDCP. So I've used optical audio out to successfully get sound. Before introducing the Xbox, then, I had my Comcast box HDMI-out directly wired
to my projector, and the Comcast box digital audio-out connect to the AV receiver. This works fine.

I introduced the Xbox. So now I have:

Comcast box HDMI-out to Xbox HDMI-In.

    Xbox HDMI-out to project

Xbox digital-audio out to the AV receiver.

This works fine when using the Xbox itself. However, for "Live TV:" I receive a picture fine, but cannot get audio working.

I can manually switch the optical audio to output directly from the Comcast box to the AV receiver, and of course this works (but I'd rather not of course).

I've mucked with all of the Audio settings (for the console itself as well as those under live TV) and nothing appears to generate sound on live TV.

Is the Xbox capable of converting the HDMI-in signal from the cable box and sending it out over digital audio (and of course still send the image via HDMI out)?

Any help greatly appreciated. I searched but did not see a post with a setup the same as mine.

Using AV and HDMI at the same time?

I'm not sure about what the possible damange would be if the AV output pins were shorted out as a result of jury-rigging, so I'll leave that answer to someone else.

But the main problem with this solution - and unfortunately with many third party AV adapters - is that it tells the Xbox 360 that an AV cable is connected. If the Xbox 360 cannot establish an HDMI connection or if the handshake is lost, it defaults to analog
video and reboots if it already had an HDMI connection established. If it detects no AV cable is connected, it waits for the HDMI connection to re-establish.

There are two problems that may arise as a result of this. The first is that the Xbox 360 might not output over HDMI if it cannot establish a handshake quickly enough with the receiving device. The other is that if the handshake over HDMI is lost because of
the display being switched over to a different input, the Xbox 360 will immediately reboot without asking.

The original audio dongle that came with first generation Elites and was included with the old official HDMI cable had its own ID, separate from the regular AV cables. When that is connected, the Xbox 360 knows that it should only output audio there and stick
    with HDMI for video output.

So "converting" an AV cable to an audio dongle may require re-soldering the ID wires to make it present itself as an audio dongle. The downside is that once done, that cable won't output analog video anymore unless it's re-soldered back the way it was. Third
party audio dongles that have wrongly connected ID pins may also require being cracked open and having those wires re-soldered to work properly.

They didn't make it easy, that's for sure.

Issue - HDMI monitor with no speakers

    Eh, your "solution" isn't ideal.

AV port cables are pinned to tell the 360 how to output video and audio. While cracking open cables works sometimes, you're left with an HDMI output that doesn't support HDCP and potentially display resolutions listed as X by Y, not HDTV standards.

The proper thin AV audio adapter that sits alongside HDMI cables tells the 360 that audio can go via the adapter and video goes via HDMI, retaining HDCP support and allowing the HDMI port to properly handshake with attache devices.

    Xbox screen static/ fuzz/ flicker

    Hello,

Today I turned on my 360 and it updated, after the update, HDMI output does not work, I've tried different tv, cables, used my PS4 and pc with same cable on my tv and receiver and both work perfectly. it seems to be only the hdmi since the av cables work...
but srsly who uses av this days.

Is it not possible to connect the Xbox to an AV Receiver via HDMI (for audio) and then output HDMI from the AV Receiver to a TV (like discussed in

    this thread
    on another forum)?

I believe, that Xbox One must be fully powered on if you are passing the cable signal through it. You cannot pass the signal while the Xbox One is is standby mode like you can with most modern AV receivers. From what I am reading and experiencing the Xbox
One is having a lot of handshake issues with various cable set top boxes, which is odd as hdmi cable passthrough is basic technology that has be available on AVRs for years.
