Simple email change taking months - problem after problem...

You'd think changing your email associated with Xbox live would be fairly straightforward, wouldn't you? Well, not for me. I've been trying to do this for months, but there's always some new problem.

    1. Sign up for xbox using my wife's email address because when I first joined xbox live, a buddy did it for me and messed it up.
    2. Been using wife's email for over a year and decide to change it to my own.
    3. Contact xbox live support and have an inexperienced person try to walk me through it.
    4. Mess it up and create a new xbox profile on the email I want to change it to.
    5. Contact support once again to fix the previous support guy's mistake.
    6. Create dummy account and have to wait 30 days
    7. Transfer the new (and unused) xbox profile to the dummy account - another 30 days
    8. Contact xbox support to walk me through the email change so it doesn't get messed up again. Mention that I have $15.02 in the account and am told I have to zero it out or the email change will not work.
How am I supposed to zero out $15.02?? Even though I don't want to spend the money in my account, I'll download a game I don't really want for $15 or less and write off the change, but noooo... I'm told I have to ZERO it out. When I ask how, the support
guy suggests I do a split payment or something on a more expensive game. WHAT?? I have to spend the money in my account and spend even MORE money JUST TO CHANGE MY EMAIL???

Would someone please explain to me why an email change can't take a few minutes without having to spend money?

    :)

I have been passed from pillar to post

i said nothing that i find offensive and what people do find offensive varies greatly worldwide, an email with a warning to remove the word someone obviously found offensive would have seen it removed.a simple email a simple change no problem, instead microsoft
just makes a ban and makes a problem. if i was to report all things i found offensive i would be on here all day.

    Xbox One repair centre problem

Glad you managed to get it sorted. I've had a similar problem with Sony twice, each time they replaced the phone after months of phoning and emailing.

Be sure to update with condition when you get it!

So I purchased The Assignment (The Evil Within DLC) for 9.99, even though I didn't really want to. Now I'm left with $4.53 in my account. How am I supposed to zero my account with $4.53 in it?? Is there really not a simpler way to do this??

    Hi!

As far as I know you may indeed need to zero out your account for the change to proceed. Having the split purchase will indeed do the trick for the $4.53. Just look for any game costing around that amount. There are Xbox Live Arcade games for $4.99 and some
games that go on sale goes pretty much around that price. Just make sure to choose the credit card or payment instrument first for the split purchase to appear. You'll get an option then asking you if you want the remaining Microsoft Credit on your account
    to be used.

After that you should not encounter anymore problems with the switch. I know this since this is what happened to me as well. I had to purchase several gamerpics and themes just to get the amount removed.

Hope this helps and works out for you.

  6. Hello,

This actually sounds like a lot of hassle for you because of the position to having to make a choice of abandoning $15.02 because it is below $50. Or spending it because you want to switch your e-mails round to your own e-mail. There really is only two options.

    1. You could consider adding an alias to your wife's account in which you could remove her alias and edit the personal information with your first name and date of birth and ask your wife to create a new e-mail address. (all this can be done at
http://account.live.com - and then manage aliases).

    2. Just hold off until you see something on the marketplace you want to buy and split the payment.

I also would like to make you aware if going with option 2, to prevent further delays in switching - you mentioned about the account being 30 days or older and the profile needs to be on the console 30 days. Bug if the profile is re-downloaded at any point
within that 30 days, the 30 day requirement is reset.

I know you don't agree with any of these two options, and if I was in your situation I wouldn't be either. It gets complicated when your gamer tag is associated with someone else's Microsoft Account. But I am certain you will get a resolution soon no matter
what option you decide to use either from me, someone else, or someone at Xbox Customer Support.

    All the best,

    Dan

Wait... you mentioned abandoning anything under $50... Can I? Cause it's worth $5 lost to have this email issue resolved. The customer support guy said I couldn't just forfeit the money. He said I HAD to spend it to the last penny.

I am assuming, here is something I found about it on a website, I will post the link in a separate post as am using a Mobile phone

The current Microsoft account has only one billing account associated with it. If you have ever made purchases in more than one country, have subscriptions such as Office 365 or have bought an app through the Windows Store, you may have more than one billing
account. Go to commerce.microsoft.com to find out.

•Funds remaining on the current Microsoft account will not move with your gamertag. You can spend the funds and take the related content with you or you can choose to abandon the funds if the balance is less than $50.00 (or the equivalent in local currency).

    Hi again.

As per my experience I was not able to abandon my $0.74 remaining on my account before. I was trying to move my gamertag for months and I received the very same advice. After everything zeroed out on my account, I was able to successfully move the gamertag.
There is a reason the Xbox Support may have given you that answer, something they can see on the account which we can't.

It may indeed be an inconvenience (it certainly was for me), but hey, it got things done successfully which I am glad for.

I really hope it will work out for you and that you'd get to a resolution.
