Signing into child account on another Xbox One

Hello,

I am trying to add my friend's account to my own Xbox, but after putting in his account info I am prompted to have a "parent" sign him in. I am given the option of selecting my own account (it displays my email, followed by a gold count of 0 for some reason,
not sure why) - but upon selecting myself, I am given an error message with 0x80a40008.

Is this because I must also have my friend's parent account added and signed in, in order to approve the addition of his child account to my Xbox?

(For the record, his account was accidentally made into a "child" account, and for a year now he has been unable to permanently remove this status even after implementing numerous solutions recommended by Support - but that's a separate issue altogether
I suppose)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

changing to adult

hello, i understand there are problems with signing into child acounts on xbox live, i am not a child and would wish to change my account to an adult one , how do i do this?

 

Xbox one's backwards compatibility won't work

Check too see if your account is a child account or adult account.

support.xbox.com/.../promote-child-account

Start a game up that is backwards compatible without signing into xbox live, then sign in.

Please let me know if either of those work.

On Xbox One, In order to add a child account to the console you need the login for the parent account that was created or designated for his account. You don't need to have the profile downloaded or signed into the console, just know the username and password
to the Microsoft account. His best bet is to try and recover his login for the account that is setup as his parent or create a new one.

Even though it was an accident, there is no other way for him become an adult before he reaches the 18 (going off the birthdate that was used).

A silly question, though...if this parent profile does not need to be downloaded or signed in, then what should I be looking to do with the info? Will I be simply prompted to enter the info to continue? Because I never received such a message; I was just
given the opportunity to select my own account, followed by the error message when it failed to sign me in. Just curious.

No problem!

When you add a child account to Xbox One, you first use the email and password for the child account. Then all you need is the email (also considered a username or alias) and password to the account that's assigned as your friends parent. Then your done!
