    When you say side by side do you mean on the same console split screen or on two different consoles/tvs?

    In the game's description you'll see an area for capabilities. You'll want to look for it to say Local Multiplayer and then it will list the number of players that it can support for that feature.

    It depends on the games and if they support local multiplayer. Not all games have that feature.

    I know you said that your kids are 8 I know that the Lego games have the split player side by side capability like you are talking about. And these games could be enjoyable for your kids.
