    I am having an issue with my side bar not opening when I hit the Xbox boton on my contoler. So I can not see any of my frinds, join party's, read or message people. This is verry irritating and needs fixed asap. Please and thank you

    Removing messages side bar?

    double tap the guide button and press down on the dpad to unsnap an app.

    This is for anyone else having the same problem.

    Problem with side bar

    I can't access my sidebar at all, or the the home button menu that gives you the option to quite a game from the home screen. I also can't accept party invites to check messages.

    Hi David,

    Unfortunately no, you would not be able to use a phone to download the OSU files to then force a system update to your console. You would need a USB storage device that meets the requirements listed on the support tool posted by Flymonkey102 in order to
    do the OSU.

    If you haven't done so, go ahead and do a hard restart and power
    cycle     to the console. Hold down the power button on the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts down and then remove the power cable from the Xbox and the power outlet for about 5 minutes. Then re-connect and wait 60 seconds before turning on
    the Xbox.

    If the issue continues, please try to boot up the console to the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter screen listed on the same support tool referenced above. If the Troubleshooter screen appears, select Reset this Xbox and continue to factory reset your Xbox.
    If you cannot get that screen to appear to reset your Xbox to factory defaults, then the offline system update would be your only choice before having to get a new Xbox or send in yours for repair if still under warranty.
