should messaging someone ingame with headset not default to voice message?

When I go to message someone while in game and go to the side menu and hit message with my chat headset in it automatically goes to the keyboard screen.

Why doesn't it go to voice to record? I've only been able to do this while going to their profile and hitting send message there...then it give mic icon for voice message...

    :)

    Cant Send Voice Message?

Agreed. Should have voice messaging. No reason other than $$$ not to. With that being said it is more shocking that we literally have the most archaic text messaging system available. Voice to text with the Kinect should have been a launch feature. Like
I said before, my phone in GTA has a better text messaging interface than the console. Really shocking.

Concern about the Xbox record and upload feature.

Well if your planning to use a headset you can mute voice. I believe someone correct me if i'm wrong but I think the current Kinect even if you mute ingame voice it still receives the commands. I could be wrong on this. I agree that would get annoying
    hearing people yell xbox record.

should messaging someone ingame with headset not default to voice message?

From the below it appears that the default is text and if you want to send voice you have to select the microphone.

    Send messages to friends

To send messages to one of your friends through Xbox One:

    Sign in to Xbox Live.

On your Xbox One Wireless Controller, press the Xbox button.

Go to the Friends hub and select Friends online.

Highlight the friend's gamertag, and then press the A button on your controller.

Select Send and then select Message to send a text message, or select the microphone icon to send a voice message.

    Enter or record your message.

    When finished, select Send.

    yeah sorry

that works with friends when in the messages section but not for when you are in the online section and especially when you select recent players it defaults to text. I can only get mic by going into their profile.

    Communication

In order to test if this is an account, network or hardware related problem, do the following:

Open the messages tab in the Guide and compose a new message.

Instead of typing, press the Microphone icon and talk into your headset. This should create a voice message that you can listen to afterwards before you send it off.

You don't have to send the message, but are you able to listen to your own voice of that voice message?

If you are not able to listen to it, check if the headset works on other controllers, or if different headsets (don't) work on the same controller.

Also make sure that in the settings tab, that you have your headset and game volume set properly.

Then while in party chat, check that you didn't accidentally muted the chat with the X button on the controller.

Chat to headset through external DAC

According to your photos, you set up the settings in the Xbox correctly.

Under "Display & Sound" you set that party chat goes to headset and speakers, which is correct, and SHOULD in theory provide chat voice to be audible.

And since you say your voice message was recorded indicated by the bars of the recording, your CTIA headset adapter is also the correct one.

It MIGHT be, that pre-listening to a voice message will send the voice of your message to the headset irregardless of the party chat setting over speakers and headset. But I have to check that on my console later this week. Currently, private matters keep
me more busy than I'd like.

The only thing I can currently say is, that your setup is correct and your settings are fine.

You SHOULD be able to hear game sound and OTHERS through your headphones, and others should be able to hear you speaking.

No in game & party voice after some hdd cleanup

Is it the regular xbox 360 headset? It looks like your headset might just be crapping out. Go like you're about to send someone a voice message, record something and hit playback. If you don't hear yourself it most likely means that your headset did break.
