Should it take hours to install a game?

Just got the One and incredibly, it takes hours to install games from discs. Even while disconnected from the net. It took quite a while to install Halo MCC from a disc while offline, thinking it'd be faster. Once online it said it needed a 10 gig update.
And that took several hours, so many hours that I gave up and tried to download Trials Fusion instead, another 10 gig file. Well, it's been about 6 hours since I started to d/l Trials and it's still at 85%.

Is this the norm with the One or do I have a problem with my console? Has also taken over 2 hours to install Assassins Creed 4 from a disc, the same with COD Advanced Warfare. From the disc!! It all seemed to install fairly well till around 95% and then
it was about 20 min per each percentage point.

Unit is under warranty since I just bought it, if I do have an issue please let me know and I'll contact support for a possible resolution. Or if this is the norm, well, as sad as it may be, I guess I'd just have to contend with it. Ouch.

    :)

    Updates

Whenever I go to connect to live it prompts me to install an update. Problem is that the update takes hours to download and install. Last one took nearly 4 hours

  3. Insane Install times?

Same exact thing here. Takes around 1-2 hours for a game to download, then between 5-12 hours for a game to install. I downloaded wwe 2k16 the other day, and it took over 10 hours for that game to install. I have the new Xbox One S... I thought install times
    were supposed to be improved?

If you are sure you are not connected to the internet, then there is certainly an issue. It should only take hours if it is downloading a big patch, which is a huge issue in this generation in and of itself.

Patches sadly are the bane of this generation, often requiring 8GB or more downloads.

My experience is that if I choose not to grab the patch, or go offline then the installs are not too bad, they shouldn't take hours.

No, I am not sure I was completely offline. I had gone to settings/network and chose to be offline. However the ethernet cable was still connected, so I suppose this means I wasn't offline after all (thought OFFline meant you're OFF but apparently not)

I still have to install Monza 6 and Minecraft from the discs, will ensure I am completely offline then. Currently halfway through installing the digital version of Halo 5 - 8 hours up to this point, another 8 to go. This is incredibly slow ain't it? Just
glad I had the foresight to do all these installs ahead of time (hidden away from the kids) as I can see the frustration and agony it would be to give them the One on Christmas day just to have them sit there with disappointed faces, for hours on end. If parents
out there are reading this and plan to give one as a gift, please do install the games ahead of time. This is a tedious, extremely slow process but best to get out of the way now rather than when the recipient gets the package and has to wait for days before
    games can be loaded.

    Hey mate,

No that is how I install too. I go to the network settings, and disconnect from there. Then I install the game, then jump back online and update.

Sometimes the install is just slow, but I think it depends on the game. Fallout 4 for example installed for me quicker then Black Ops 3 did, but I thought it'd be the other way around. It just depends on the game.

The updates are another story, as sometimes they can be really quick, other times they can take ages. I think it depends on a lot of things, so is hard to guess what could be causing it. For example I think the fallout update took so long for me because
I was doing it on launch day, and imagine a lot of other people were probably doing it too.

Halo MCC is just a massive game, and that update will take ages no matter what, I left that one going overnight myself. They could not fit everything on the disc, so needed to released half the game (or something like that) as an update.

The only thing I can suggest is to do it overnight, you can switch the xbox off into sleep mode, and it will continue to update. That is honestly the best way to do it Should it take hours to install a game? :)

    Cheers

Ok, thanks for clarifying that. Looks like this is the norm and not the exception, meaning my unit is perfectly fine (although the same can't be said for MS servers)

Currently installing Minecraft's update. I did ensure I first unplugged the ethernet cable and also went offline. Took seconds to install the game from the disc. Plugged it all back in and was told there's a 700mb update. With my fast cable modem a file
that size would be downloaded in mere seconds in my computer. But here I still am, 20 minutes later and it's still only showing 86%. Looks like MS may want to consider investing in upgrading their servers if they're serious about retaining a satisfied client
base. With the explosion of the One and Christmas around the corner I can already predict a lot of disappointed customers and plenty of angry feedback.

And the funny thing is, I used to think Sony's servers were pathetic. Got the kids a ps3 a few months back and couldn't believe how slow going online with it was compared to the 360. Updating games on the ps3 was painfully slow. Forget watching Netflix via
Sony's server (mandatory) as the image quality was poor due to low bandwidth. We have an Apple TV used for Netflix, pity anyone that has to watch Netflix via a console. I used wonder why anyone would buy a ps3. FF a few months and here I am, facing painfully
slow speeds with MS servers. What I don't get is, speeds are much faster when downloading with the 360 than the One. Odd, ain't it?

Fallout 4 took 20 minutes to install start to finish. Call of Duty Black Ops 3 took two hours.

All depends who made the game.

  11. The install time of a game will vary if one is online or offline with a disc and online is affected by your ISP and bandwidth as well as Xbox Live server load. Installing small titles such as Minecraft would take a few seconds for a disc if one isn't online
to an hour or so if the game is near the dual layer Blu-ray disc limit of 50 GB.

That can be affected by how the Xbox One handles that particular game. Launch titles were know to be slow while installing from disc due to the changes to the installation process that were necessary to remove the proposed DRM.

Once we go online, a patch is going to be downloaded no matter what. (The exception is those that get their games from a store that sells games the moment they get copies of them, a practice that can get the business in huge trouble, that do so to compete
with the major sellers and that they get the game early. Enforcement action being taken is possible if one plays a game too early.) If the patch is small and one has decent internet, it shouldn't affect the install time too much, but 30+ GB patches will affect
the install time by hours (well over a day for those in the sticks) unless one is lucky enough to have fiber optic internet which will allow games to be installed faster for a digital copy than the disc (a few minutes even for the largest games).
