Should I return my controller for a replacement?

The first controller I owned that came with the Series X had an 'A' button that would double press really often which meant typing anything out was a particularly frustrating experience. I bought a new controller to replace it with while I wait for the first one to be fixed and this new second controller also has an 'A' button that double presses but less so than the first controller. Maybe once every 15 or so presses will be a double input which is bearable but it can still screw things up in certain games and again typing things out can be frustrating. This is my first experience with Xbox since the 360 so I was wondering if this is considered normal for Xbox controllers nowadays or if you think I should just return it for a replacement (I've only had it for about 2 weeks so hopefully it shouldn't be a hassle to replace). Thanks for your help.

    :)

Should I return my controller for a replacement?

Hi, I hope you're doing great out there despite the issue that you're experiencing. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you in regard to your concern.

This is not normal, Cero28 and kindly check if there is an update for your controller by following the steps below:

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, select Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories, and then select the controller you want to update.

    2. On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select “…” to check the firmware version for your controller.

    3. If it says “Update,” select Firmware version, and then follow the steps provided.

If there is no update the best option indeed is getting it replaced via https://account.microsoft.com/devices.

Should I return my controller for a replacement?

I would avoid Xbox Series X/S controllers. My first controller that came with my Series X developed that same issue. After ignoring it for a while (because I play shooters where "A" jumps once) it developed a stick drift. It was internal, and had nothing to do with the actually stick, I later found out. Then every button started double pressing, triple pressing. After figuring out I couldn't get it replaced, I disassembled it and made sure everything was clean and clicked into place. It was. Just blew through ANOTHER Series XS controller after less than 4 months. This time my left stick can't reach full velocity when pushed forward, (which has nearly killed me in Resident Evil, like a thousand times).

So, based on my experience, I can tell you this is very normal for this particular xbox controller.

It should not be that difficult. Probably best to return the controller and have it replaced.

Same situation for me. I returned the controller and STILL haven't received a replacement. This blows! Microsoft should be ashamed.

Returning a controller for a replacement

You can if you want, but keep in mind that anything you send with the controller is not guaranteed to come back. So if you want to keep that box, you'll want to find a different box to ship it in.
