  1. Sharing Profiles vs. Allowing "Guest" Profiles

Earlier this evening, I had a lively debate with a friend on Xbox Live because I found out that he shares his Xbox One profile with some of his friends. The reason I'm creating this thread is because I personally think this is a bad idea. IMO, you shouldn't
allow family or friends to use your profile because they can unwittingly get your account banned if they don't follow the Xbox Live Terms of Use or Code of Conduct. Unfortunately, saying that "it wasn't me" isn't a valid excuse - you are responsible for your
account regardless of who uses it because you are also responsible for protecting it (although if an account is legitimately hijacked, it can still be recovered if it's reported BEFORE any such unfortunate transgressions should occur that violate the ToU and
CoC). When I mentioned this to my friend and asked why he didn't just let his friend create a new profile on his console to take advantage of his Gold subscription, he told me that it was because he could still be console banned regardless of which method
he chose. My counter-argument to this was that by using another profile and account, any punishment LESS than a console ban wouldn't affect him personally, only the account his friend created whereas having his friend share his account subjected his own personal
account to EVERY punishment if his friend decided to be truly sinister for whatever reason. I have yet to hear another reply from my friend regarding this issue as of this thread being created.

My question to you is simple - if you had a friend that wanted to play your games on your console, would you rather let them use your profile, allow them to create (or use) their own profile/account on your console, or not let them use your console at all?
Please state your reasoning behind your choice - I've already give you mine.

    Let the discussion begin!

    :)

No she doesn't need her own profile or gold membership, she just signs in as a guest while logged into your account.

I don't let anyone use my account for that reason, even my partner has to use her own account to use my Xbox.

Even though I know she wouldn't do anything stupid with it, I really don't have trust in people to use it for the fear if they do something with it and get it banned. Plus lets be honest it takes less than 5 minutes to set up a new account for the console.

I wouldn't let anyone use my account, but I know people that do on the 360.

however the XO is different, if its that same console you only need one xbox live account, you can share the Digital content, etc etc.

So IMO on the XO there is no need to share accounts

  6. Davey, just to clarify, there's a difference between accounts, profiles, & subscriptions. Accounts refers to everything that's yours throughout MS' services; profiles refers to your specific persona or identity on each individual service; subscriptions refers
to anything you pay for regularly as part of those services.

On the 2nd line of your post you say 1 XBL account when what you really meant was 1 XBL Gold subscription. Also, on your 3rd line, you say accounts again when you really meant profiles.

Sorry for being a stickler, but being specific helps avoid confusion. Sharing Profiles vs. Allowing "Guest" Profiles ;)

  7. It's never a good idea to share one account. I believe Davey was implying that because up to ten (gold or silver) gamer tags can sign in on your home machine, and use all content from the home machine account, that it would be unnecessary to share one gold
account. I would never share one account tho. Sorry to all those in dorms or appt sharing. Just a bad idea...

Offline games, sure i dont mind em playing on my account

Online games, No feckin chance lol Not messing up my kds and skill scores etc, my stats represent me i dont want some of my noob mates dragging em down lmao

Regardless of above tho they NEVER have access to my account if i aint around i simply don't share the details with ANYONE, unless there really is some unavoidable need to do so which so far there hasnt for me but my mate had to give me his account details
so i could let him sub of my cc to get round that strange account lock ms puts in place with a failed DD, after that was sorted i removed my info and thats the last i been on his account, friends are supposed to be friends i would never compromise a friends
account if he allowed me to use it and i hope for the same in return

  10. *Whew* You scared me there for a minutes - good thing I'm not s. Sharing Profiles vs. Allowing "Guest" Profiles :p

To add to your point tohellnbak, my friend did say that his friend was a bit of a trash-talker - that means he's not off to a good start.

LTA, I find it interesting that you're more willing to share your credit card info over your account info. Here's my advice for you - it's a bad idea on both accounts (and not the kind I was talking about above either). If your friend can't pay for what
he wants, then that's on him - you should have no obligation to help him out. If it was a matter of need, however, then I suppose I could understand, but otherwise, no.

yeah well i have known him for well around 10 years he lives round the corner, i go round his house most days, i know he's good for it, he didnt have my details at all he couldnt access the website to do it himself and like i said it was all removed once
done so he actually never saw my card info anyway and i had all his account details so he was pretty trusting the same way considering i could view the whole account and edit it should i have been a nob to do so.

Some of us value certain friendships far more than money, there's only 2 people outside my close family i'd do stuff like that for because we have been through thick n thin together and they have done the same for me in many situations.

and i am more than familiar with internet fraud and credit card fraud, i got 2 ps3 slims for free thanks to some berk frauding my catalogue account and ordering 2 ps3's without changing the delivery address

@GG, you might want to point that out the MS, when I sign into this website, at the top it clear says My account.

    @Stud, thanks for understanding.

I don't share my account with anyone on the consoles but the lady has used the laptop to play some silly windows 8 games, unbeknown that its tied to my profile -_-

I just get paranoid about it lol. My brother once sent out a mass message when my back was turned that said "I am a pretty pink butterfly and I dance in circles" or something.
