Sharing Digital games...

Hey guys,

Hopefully a simple question. I've got two Xbox One's in my house...one for me and one for my 8yr old son. If we want to play multiplayer online for a game, if i buy the digital copy, download and install on both, can both of us play online together or
do i need to buy two copies of the same game?

My assumption is that this will work if his Xbox One is setup as the Home Xbox and not mine. Am i right, or am i completely off base with how Home Xbox works? If not this, any other approaches or do i just need suck it up and buy the game twice?

Hi there,

any profile on your Home console can play the games you bought digitally on your console, as long as it is connected to Xbox Live.

Your account can download and play the game on any console that is connected to Xbox Live. So if your son plays the game on your Home console, as far as I knwo you can play the same game on the other console at the same time.

If you share account. You share games, apps, every subscriptions what you have..

You share only digital games. No on disc. Only digital.

Regardless if Family settings, game sharing parameters still apply. So the digital games can only be shared on two consoles. In terms of buying the games directly from Microsoft that is not an issue as long as the game shared is in digital format, it really
doesn't matter from what retailer you purchase the game as long as it is digital format.

you must own each console the game will be on, the console that is set as the home console will let any profile on there play the game and any other console you must be signed in with your profile, this is a grey area and can be deemed against the terms
of use, sharing in the same household is much more common and I think should be ok, but game sharing with friends in different locations could technically be called market place theft.

Thank you for reaching out to the forum. That is not possible in the long run. You are only allowed to change your home consol 5 times pr. year. So i would recommend that shared purchases are done on that account.

Yes, it is called game sharing. To do this you need to sign in to your account on their Xbox, go to settings --> personalization --> my home xbox --> Make this Xbox my home Xbox. Now just sign in to your children's account(s), go to library, then full
library, and they'll be able to download the games. Also, if you have a gold membership, they will have access to it too. Hope this helped!
