Settlement Location

Have any of you built a settlement yet? And where?

My choice is the Red Rocket Gas Station, which is probably not the best location, but I liked it better than Sanctuary. I built a fort on the top of the gas station....ummm, which theoretically is a terrible idea, but hey.

I'm not sure I recommend the location because it's not on a flat surface, so putting a fence around it will be nearly impossible, but it's small and manageable.

I wish we could post pics on here...it would be cool to show some screen shots.

SURVIVAL TIPS

- If you send a "settler" off on a supply line (RB) it will allow you to share all of your building resources among all settlement locations to build. (NOTE: The physical counts of items in that settlement's workshop will only show what's stored there at
that location. If you try to build it will show you the total amount you have.)

- If you salvage the 5 barrels in the water at the Drive in settlement the water and area around it will no longer be radioactive. Pop a couple of Rad-X doses before getting near it.

 

State of Decay 2 - find resource bug?

I am in my second settlement, and when selecting "Radio - Find resources/people" Red Talon provides 3 places for me to scavenge to find the chosen resource. However, when going to these places, no resources are available.

In my first settlement, I would get the three locations and when going to either of the two that didn't have the resource, the exclamation point indicator would disappear. The indicator wouldn't disappear in the location that did have the resource, and a storage item would be blinking. Also, if I had already scavenged this location, I would get an indicator that one item is left in the area (eg, 4/5). )None of this is happening now.

Is this a bug or is this option different in your second settlement? I am being charged the resource points but get absolutely nothing out of it and I've tried this MANY times. Pretty frustrating.

I've made a bit of a start on Sanctuary, but nowhere else. I wish I could devote more time to settlement building but I always get itchy feet after a few minutes of building....

 

You can hyperlink images on this thread. To answer your question I have been grinding away at gathering junk to break down for supplies for settlements. I just collected the last copy of "Picket Fences" (adds more to the workshop and can be found under INV-MISC)
I have grinded so much and got Local Leader(2nd rank perk) to build shops and allow my workshop supplies to come with from settlement to settlement.

So far I own nine settlements and prefer Sanctuary. The Castle is nice, and I feel it would be better if Bethesda didn't have the building limit. I can not wait for the console mod ports to be available for this game. I hope that is the first mod I can get.
There is also an island right across the East side that you can create a settlement as from a blank canvas.

Right now I am working on the wiring of my house and adding a Japanese garden in my basement. I am trying to see if I can add more switches for hidden passageways however right now it's a little glitchy. I wish I could add corners and doors in my home without
changing the model of the floor base. Something I hope gets fixed in a patch. I'll upload images and share once I have a completed tour.

I'm starting to get the impression that I will be the lone settler at my Red Rocket gas station, as there aren't any options to send anyone there. I made a great bunker for my settlers too, but I guess it will just have to serve as my own person wasteland
mansion. : (( At least Dogmeat is around.

But now I'm bored with being alone in my shacky mansion, so I guess I WILL meander over to Sanctuary and help them out since they seem to be really sad and helpless. That and I'm sending people there for a better life when it's the gloomiest spot on the
map. A certain ghoul-man thanked me profusely for allowing him access to the cesspool of sadness. Fine...that is my next mission: Cleaning up and repairing Sanctuary. Food, water, supply lines, whatever they need. I'm their guy. (girl)

In happier news, detective Valentine appreciates my characters decisions and now admires her. It's because I have a rule of thumb when I play these kinds of games - to make decisions as I would in real life. If someone is desperate for water, you better
believe I'm going to make sure they get some. I never steal either...it just seems grimy.

 

ingI stuck with Sanctuary.

Once you get the "Local Leader" perk, settlement building gets really fun!

Oh and Red Rocket is a great defensive location. Smart to build vertically.

Well I worked for a few hours in Sanctuary last night and everything is in the green now. I got level 2 of the local leader perk, but I can't figure out how to make anything work. I set up one supply stand and FINALLY got some sad looking guy to work there.


Question - I bought some supplies: (-25 - Shipment of wood, etc.) What do I do with these? Maybe this is a dumb question. I just don't know. I guess I could look in the guide that is sitting near me collecting dust.

 

Red Rocket will be my 100% happines place but once I'm done with that achievement, I'll scrap everything there and build something great at the drive-in. I just built the living spaces on top of the station and the yard is used for farming and clinics so
nothing special, really. I have yet to plan the drive-in but I assume it'll be great when it's done.

 

Yes, the drive in looks like a good location. I would never scrap my work at the gas station though because it just took way too long to get it all completed.

Here is a great tip guys: In your workshop there is a choice under Miscellaneous where you can place a spawn location. It looks like a welcome mat and you can place it wherever you want to appear when you fast travel to your settlement. I like to spawn
right in front of my trunks so I can sort out all my weapons and other things without having to walk up two flights of stairs and through a door.

 

remember when you get the quest to setup a settlement location to turn off the message once you get a few settlers. Otherwise you will have to many.

 

^How can you have too many settlers? The number can't ever go above 10 + your charisma + 1 and you pretty much need several settlers to get 100 happiness...

 

Is a settlement worth building if it's not near water?

Also, how do you build on top of Red Rocket? I can't find a ladder tall enough to get me up there.
