    Setting up Xbox One for XBL behind a Sonicwall firewall appliance


    Has anyone setup a firewall to allow open NAT policy? SonicWall tech support says Moderate is best I will get as the SonicWall will not support UPnP which XBL relies on to grab <any> open port. Just a reality check from users, I do want to keep the firewall,
    it's meeting all my other needs... is this the best I can expect?

    I have a Sonicwall TZ 215 and SonicOS Enhanced 5.9.0.7-17o, in front of a Xfinity Cable Modem (30Mbs down/ 6 Mbs up) ... with assistance from them on the phone, it is now changed from Strict to moderate NAT. Since Xbox Live needs UPnP to be allowed on ANY
    random port , the most you can get to is Moderate NAT ...not open NAT. They said to getting to Open would require allowing the Xbox to operate without the firewall as with every port open , what is the point of having a firewall. Support article which is accurate

    NAT Type Strict for no reason.

    I have a SonicWall as well and no matter what ports or all ports are open to the Xbox, I still get Strict type enabled. I just end up bypassing the firewall and plugging the xbox directly into the cable modem when I need updates. Anyone found a solution
    for the SonicWall?

    NAT Issues HELP

    Nope. That's the trick of dmz. All the other devices are still behind the firewall. Also there is no way to compromise a Xbox One and there are also no sensitive data stored on it. So it's no problem to have it set up into the DMZ.
