Setting up existing profile on XBOX 360 for XBOX live

Hello!

Currently, my son has a profile setup on our Xbox 360. My account has always had Xbox live but over the last year I have let it lapse since I don't really have time for much gaming and it seemed like a waste. Now we have purchased a 1 year Live membership
for my son. I tried setting it up with his Gmail account but was instructed to create a Microsoft account. So, I went through that process, went through the entire minor process, and now we have an Xbox live gamertag! Yay!

However, when I attempt to add that gamertag to his current profile it won't let me. It states that it is already associated with another Xbox Live account. I cannot seem to figure out how to "Undo" whatever I did previously so that we can setup his current
profile with that MS account.

I am hoping someone can give some good news. I attempted to work through this through the Ambassador chat but was disconnected after about 15 minutes of chatting about the issue and wasn't able to get connected to another one.

XBox Live/Gold with Existing Profiles

My son has an existing profile on his XBox 360. He wants to use this profile for a new XBox Live Gold account, but I cannot figure out how to sign up for Xbox Live Gold through his existing profile.

 

Profile Merge

How can I merge my game profile and Xbox Live profile? Unfortunately, while setting up my Xbox Live Gold Account my existing profile on the unit was not associated with it. Can they be merged???

 

Basically you've created a second account. There is no way to merge that account to your son's original account. You can download the account to the console in order to use it.

Usually to add Live to an existing account on the console, you just need to go to "Join Live" and follow the prompts. However, I don't believe it's possible to do that with a child account any longer so you would have to create a new account for him to join

Signing up to Xbox LIVE with a brand new account cannot be the same as the other account you're mentioning. It would be better just to download the original account. To do this in the easiest steps switch on your Xbox 360 console.

Step 1. Press the guide button (The big button with the X in the middle, top center of the controller)

Step 2. Download Profile (If you are signed into any current profiles, it will not give you that option, but if you press the X button it will prompt you to sign out to repeat the process to get to the Download Profile option)

Step 3. Enter in your Microsoft Account Name (For the original account)

Step 4. Enter in the password (For the original account)

Step 5. Your original account should then begin to download! And shortly your son will be able to enjoy his gaming again.

But as stated by Smwutches this might be out of the question if your sons account has his date of birth and falls below the age of 18 to promote the account to an Adult Account.

It would be best to get more information on this from the Microsoft Support Team, just encase there is something else that can be done, it's worth a try!
