    Setting the game install drive

Setting the game install drive [IMG]

    Hi all

I've just got a new laptop, trying to set up the xbox game pass on PC, which has been a nightmare so far.

Now I'm trying to install a game, and I can't get past this error.

I only have 1 drive in this laptop, it is NFTS, and as you can see - I have plenty of space.

I can't select anything on this screen apart from the 'set your location' link, which takes me to the below screen:

Setting the game install drive [IMG]

These are the only options I have for setting where installs go - I'm assuming games come under Apps, and it won't let me change it anyway, as I don't have any other drives to select!

What am I supposed to do!?

    :)

    Setting the game install drive

Hi and thanks for reaching Microsoft Xbox gamer's community. My name is Josef.
I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft Xbox user like you.

Hope you're doing great today despite this SCUBA_BOI

This can be a bit dumb, but if you recently got the laptop. Please check if everything is up to date:

    Open Settings, click Update and Security and then Windows Update;

    Click Check for Updates;

Click the Download and Install Now option, if available (Install optional updates as well)

Also, check the Microsoft Store for any updates on the Xbox apps and its services and update everything too.

If you have pending updates and if the issue persists after updating and restarting your computer. Try the next:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for gaming services app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then reset

Then do the same for the Xbox app:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for Xbox app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then reset

    Finally do this:

Step 1: Open the Run window by pressing Windows + R key.

Step 2: Input WSReset.exe in the Run window and click OK.

Step 3: Then a command prompt window will appear. After a few seconds, Windows Store will open.

Now, check again in the Xbox app

Installing Games/Apps onto D Drive through Xbox app/Windows Store

I am trying to install games and apps onto my D drive instead of C drive through the Xbox app and Windows store on Game pass.

I have set the default drive to install apps to through Windows settings

I have set the default drive through the Xbox app settings

I get a notification when going to install the game, asking which drive to install to, and instruct it to install to the D drive

Every time though, it ignores this and installs to me C drive.

If I try to move the app through settings, the "Moving" notification and progress bar appears for a split second before disappearing, with no error information, but not having moved the file.

There are some apps that are installed on my D drive, and the pattern seems to be apps that require Admin approval are the ones not install onto my D drive.

Could someone try and resolve the issue, as it's incredibly frustrating for a service that is no longer in beta.

A game displaying Error code: (0xc06d007e). Not starting.

Thanks. I think I know what the problem with this game was - I have a gaming drive (E:) and a Windows installation drive (C:). the Xbox app on pc always tries to default back to C: drive even if you set E: in settings. When the game updated and was installing, I noticed it was installing to the incorrect C: drive. I quickly changed this to E: in settings and hoped it would be ok, seeing as only a small amount of data had started to install.

I think that's where it went wrong.

Anyway, do you know why the drive keeps defaulting back to the Windows installation drive (C:) for game installs even when you change the drive in Xbox App settings? It's very annoying having to keep remembering to make sure it's changed to the E: drive whenever I need to install anything.

Because of this defaulting the Xbox app also keeps placing an 'XboxGames' folder in my C: root, which I have to keep on deleting before I change the game save drive to E: in the Xbox app settings, so the games are installed to the correct XboxGames folder in E:.

Xbox PC app doesn't allow me to install games on external hard drive

So I figured it out. You need to format the external drive as a NTFS. Then in the storage settings set all new applications to install on the new drive. The xbox app will install on that drive and all your games as well.

games doesn’t install on xbox app on pc

Try setting up your installation drive, press the Windows Key + I to open Settings. Click System > Storage. On Windows 10, underneath the More storage settings heading, click Change where new content is saved.

To change the default drive for new apps, use the New apps will save to dropdown. On the Xbox app, click the profile menu in the top-right and select the Settings options. Click on General. Under the “Game install options” section, select the drive to install games by default. Please try installing your games using drive C.
