Set up new account without losing xbox progress

My son's xbox account is linked to my microsoft account. I need to set up parental controls but don't know how to do this if we have one microsoft account. Everything I've read says he would need to set up a new account which means he would lose all his xbox progress on his game pass. Does anyone know a way around this? If I let him have my account, and change that to a child account, I wouldn't be able to access my emails. I think you can change the email address on the xbox account so would that work? It's so confusing!! Why can't they just separate the account and let him keep his progress??

There's no way to change an adut account to a child account. He would either have to continue using the account as is, or start over on a new account.

Is there any way to get a child account out of the family whilst still keeping the progress? I have a problem where my account is in a family and I need it so that my account is the adult. Hope this makes some sense Thanks for any help

It sounds like that account is set up as an adult account. Adult accounts cannot changed to a child account. Your only option is to create a new child account for your son. he will lose progress, as he will have to start his games again on his new
account.

My account which his gamertag is set up on is an adult account. Surely there must be a way of moving Gamertags between accounts?!? I've set up a child account for him but just need to move his gamertag.

Creating a new gamertag or losing the progress on his current one is really not an option.....

Yes, I have child accounts set up - it wasn't necessary or on my radar when we first go the xbox as they were smaller and it was easy to limit their time/games. Now that they are getting older and can access the xbox without my help, I have set up child
accounts and researched how to set limits etc. The problem is that my one child has been playing a certain game faithfully and is devastated to potentially lose all his progress - and I would like to also protect myself and my own microsoft account/password
without having to give up that information to him. I hate that he will have to lose all his progress - even though just a game - so I can protect my own personal account. I was just hoping there was a way I could transfer over the gamertag to his account.
