It takes hours to install games on this console?? Or am I doing something wrong?

Hey Blasta! It depends - are you installing while plugged into the network? If so, it's usually much faster to unplug from the network, then install the disc, THEN plug back into the network to allow it to run its updates. The problem is, when installing
while connected to a network, the game simultaneously installs from disc AND downloads and installs updates, which significantly increases the install time.

I tried that, but it wont finish the install unless I am connected to xbox live.

I don't know the exact speed, but it is high speed internet.

 

I started the download at like 2:30ET. I tried the disconnecting and it went from 7% to 85%...now it's stuck at 96% for the past hour. Unreal.

 

Ok so I figured it out. I took the whole 3 and half hours for Madden 15, but found that I should have deleted the original install, which I didn't.

 

Okay so maybe I didn't! WTF???? I downloaded the game perfectly, now all the updates are going to take another year to download! I mean C'mon!!!!

I have had similar experience to yours, Halo MCC took 3 days to download… and at one point was stuck and would not go past 76%,

Upon some investigation I discovered that this has a lot to do with DNS.

Here in Australia, some of our ISPs like to cache Xbox downloads or have agreements with Microsoft to route traffic to their data centres in specific ways.

The good thing about it is that downloading anything from Xbox is considered as free traffic (does not count against our allowance, yes we still have it here down under).

The bad news about it is that sometimes the routing is broken or the cached copy is not available.

Solution? Change DNS in your settings/network to that of 3rd party, I would recommend Google.

So change your primary to 8.8.8.8 and secondary to 8.8.4.4 and see if things improve.

Just keep in mind that your usage/allowance (if applicable) might be effected by this modification.

I did that at the time of me downloading Halo MCC and was able to complete the download at 3 times the initial speed and past 76% with no further problems.
