Series X wont play 360 games online

Ok so here goes. Trying to play with friends on Gears of War 3 with series X. We play every other week together and all was working great until last week.

When trying to log into the game , it will not connect to xbox live. I am using ethernet port NOT wifi. When I disconnect the ethernet cable and switch to wifi , game works fine. The second I reconnect the cable it kicks me out saying I lost connection.

Now for the fun part, this only happens on any back compatible 360 game I try and only 360 titles. NAT is open I can download anything from store fine , connect to party chat fine , play any xbox game with ethernet plugged in. I've done system wipe , reinstalled titles, switched routers , switched cables , clear the 360 profile from the system. Best part , this all happened out of the blue. We played just fine 2 weeks ago with 0 issues.

I've done every walkthrough , FAQ board , wiki thing and nothing works. The second I disconnect the ethernet cable , 360 games work.

Help ? I'm totally stumped

Hi MrWabb,

In the post you mentioned that when you're using ethernet to play Xbox 360 games on your Series X it does not work but if you switch to WIFI it works. Please report this problem on the Xbox console for Team Xbox to further investigate with as much information as possible in the description, including the troubleshooting steps you completed already.

Tried this on an Xbox Series X from a digital download Banjo-Kazooie using Ethernet & At&t internet and was unable to reproduce the problem and need additional info.

Do you see any error codes or anything specific that happens when you try to play the game or download the backwards compatible games?
Are you only using Xbox 360 discs to play?

I dont have a 360 only series x and it wont let me on the series x

That game is backwards compatible so you can play it on the Series X with the 360 disc, but online servers were shut down for the 360 version of the game.

Okay so just to make sure I understand.....

I make my sons Series S (MY) Home Console.....

He can play Online with me if I am on my PC signed in as me.
I can also sign into my own Series X and play my games.

We wont be playing together on XBOX on both Series S and Series X.

if the rumour has any truth to it, it will be an Xbox exclusive (Xbox One and Series X and possibly 360) as there has already been a press release stating that there wont be any games exclusive to Series X.
