  1. Series X/S games on external hard drive

    Hello.

Just wanted to share a few things I've learned.

1- I found out that you cannot use the XB1 version of games on your series X/S. if you do download them, you will be prompted to upgrade to the series X/S version before you play. I was trying to do this with games like fall guys and rocket league to save hard drive space since I saw no difference in gameplay between the 2 versions, but found out you can't.

2- Is to buy an external hard drive. I bought a 4tb drive. You can use it to hold all of your xb1 games and series X/S games(see #4) to save internal drive space

3- You can play SOME series X/S games from an external hard drive. So far, I have found 3. We happy few, rocket league, and shadow of the tomb raider, can all be played from an external drive as of right now(2/18/23).

4- Download to an external drive to save space on the internal. If you have internet slower than 600mbps, download onto an external drive. Then you can transfer the game to the internal drive whenever you want, and it does so at 600-700mbps(at least on my console). So less wait time compared to downloading from the store when you decide to play. If a series X/S game us on your external drive, it will have a little box with 2 arrows in it in the bottom right corner of the game tile to let you know it needs switched. The ones that work from an external might show this from time to time but so far in my experience, they will still open and play, and the symbol will go away again after doing so. So download to your external first unless you want to play right away. You may find more games that can be stored on the external and still play without transferring to the internal drive.

5- Is an issue I encountered with recording gameplay. I recorded Forza Motorsport 7 all the time, and then all of a sudden it kept giving me an error. If you have this error, turn off HDR10 in settings-display-video modes(under advanced section)-and uncheck the box for HDR10. Now it should let you record gameplay again.

6- Is a way that may help with your online play. It is called a "powerline adapter". If wireless isn't working well, try a range extender. I used them and still had no luck with better wifi. If this doesn't work, and you can't use ethernet because the console is in a different room, look to see if your console is on the same electrical circuit in your house. If it IS, buy powerline adaper. Make sure it can handle the speed ratings you need. What it does is it uses your electrical wiring in your house as ethernet cable. The adapters are designed to get internet thru them and also they lower, or get rid of the interference of using the electrical wiring, for example, eliminating line noise. They are designed to get you the internet speed you need within their rating. You can get them online thru known internet hardware providers like net gear and tplink(I bought tplink ones). This is a device that plugs into your wall next to your router. Should come in a pack of 2 with 2 short ethernet cables. Plug 1 into an outlet next to your router. Has to be a wall receptacle, not a power strip or surge protector. You then plug in an ethernet cable from your router to the powerline adapter. Then plug the 2nd powerline adapter into the wall outlet next to your console, and plug an ethernet cable from the powerline adapter to your console. You now have hardwired internet and it works pretty well. You can also buy an ethernet splitter to carry the signal from one cable into multiple devices. Use it next to your TV. I had a 4 way splitter so I could supply ethernet to 4 devices at the same time. So if you have issues with your wireless signal and can't run a long cable, look into those adapters.

Hope these help you guys out!

    :)

Why does my friend have to copy a game from his external to his internal hard drive?

If he has a Series S/X and is trying to play a Series S/X optimized game, it will only run on the internal drive or on an expansion card made for the Series S/X. It won't run on a regular external hard drive or SSD.

    External hard drive not working

    Hi,

External hard drives are not fast enough for Xbox Series X|S titles. Unfortunately you can't play these games off slow USB external hard drives. They need either be installed internally or to an optional Xbox Series X|S Expansion card.

Newer games require faster storage bug. Will not let me -download- to external harddisk/ssd

To transfer games from the internal hard drive to an external hard drive on an Xbox Series S or X, navigate to "My games & apps", select the game you want to transfer, choose "Move or Copy", then select the external drive as the destination and confirm.
