Series X Packet Loss only in online games

Hey there,

I just have major network issues with my series X.

I live in Germany, have a 400 mbit 20 ms connection wired via ethernet to my console.

Every other device I own - smartphone, PC, OLED Smart TV, Xbox One X,... - I am just getting heavy packet loss and lags at online games only on my Series X.

Got it connected with an ethernet cable, hard reseted the console, hard reseted the router, disabled teredo filters, set static ip, enabled upnp (nat type is open), changed dns to google, ... I just did almost everything I could think of and still can't get rid of these massive lags in Rocket League or Apex Legends.

I also tested the packet loss with multiple devices via services on websites (packetlosstest dot com) and had 0% packet loss. Even on the series X tested in the Edge browser.

This is driving me nuts!

First the games work fine, but every 1-10 Minutes I get massive packet loss for about one Minute.

Even my party chat is lagging during this network issue.

Got this issue since a few weeks so I thought it could be software related due to a new firmware or something.

My Router is a Fritzbox 6590 cable.

I really hope my Series X has no hardware issue, because getting a repair or replacement seems pretty unlikely regarding general availability of Series X consoles...

Does someone have an Idea?

In this case, I recommend forwarding the ports that Live needs and the ports that the games use.

These are the ports that Xbox Live uses

Port 88 (UDP)

Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)

Port 53 (UDP and TCP)

Port 80 (TCP)

Port 500 (UDP)

Port 3544 (UDP)

Port 4500 (UDP)

My router doesn't support DMZ's.

Alternatively I can set the Series X as Exposed Host for IPv4 and IPv6, but I don't feel good doing so.

Would that be a secure alternative to a DMZ?

Get the IP that your network assigns to the console, find the DMZ function on your modem/router put it in the field, and save. Then test the games and see if that solves the problem.

I see. Have you also checked if it is possible to disable ipv6 on your router to see if that helps?

Thanks for your reply.

I already tried to add the ports manually. Unfortunately this did not help.

I assume my ISP Vodafone has some trouble handling IPv4 and IPv6 by my router to the AFTR gateways.

Because after restarting the router sometimes it works again for a short time (1-3 hours). And after the restart the router maybe connects to a different AFTR gateway, which isn't overloaded. At least thats what my research revealed.

I will call my ISP tomorrow and ask about that. Will update you here.
