Series X not playing certain DVD movies properly

My Series X is under 6 months old and I find that there's certain DVD movie discs (standard def region 2 disks) that the unit won't play the movie content properly. Menus and audio are all fine, but what I see on the screen is a flashing green stream of the movie which is totally unwatchable. My TV is a 65" 4k LG OLED.

I've uninstalled & reinstalled the blu-ray player app, all software is current, numerous HDMI cables of 2.1 super high quality, tried these discs in ordinary DVD players (and they all play fine), tried various other display and framerate settings - from UHD to the lowest display settings and tried a different HD TV.

Can't seem to speak to anybody from Microsoft UK, but have placed a repair order to send my console back to Microsoft - I'd like to do this as a last resort.

Returned the console to Microsoft and on its return it still doesn't play the movie elements of standard def DVD's I own.

I'd guess the Blu-ray player app is the problem, but I suppose there could be inherent hardware incompatibilities between professionally made movie DVD's and the processing chips in the console.

That's life. I accept that l this is an issue and will use other kit that I was hoping to bin to play movies.

Your best bet is to contact the disc company, tis your fastest route to a fix to let them know. Sometimes they have new corrected pressings for example.

I'll try and report error via my console as you suggest. The discs that won't play were made years ago so Network really can't be faulted for an issue with a games console.

Looks like our Xbox dvd player just isn't good enough and can't be trusted to function with standard def movie discs. I'll need to keep a standalone player.

The common denominator is almost certainly whoever Network hired, and the authoring software they’re using. The people behind the best thing to do is use the report a problem teacher by holding down the Xbox symbol on the controller and choosing report a problem. That is the best way to get the information to them. I would also report this to Network so that they can contact their authoring company.

I can tell you having been in DVD pretty much since it’s inception, that no one knows anything about this part of the process

Virtually no one in the business at any major studio all the way down to the boutique labels understand it. They will take the info and forward it to the author
