Series X Does Not Play True HD or DTS:MA Codecs from MKVs

they cant stop you from running mkv files. its only a container, x360 could run mkv. the problem is like 99.99999% of mkv use h264 for their video codec which x360 did not support as ms wanted to push their own video codec.

codecs shouldnt be an issue for x1 as the blu ray player will have to support a large range of blu rays which include h264 and all of the dolby and dts codecs.

i think the better question is will ms allow 3rd party apps for x1 that will allow whatever codec you want or allow playing video files straight from a rar or other type of archive. in theory, if they go through with the dev kit thing, we will be able to
install anything we want on our x1.

I also have problems playing MKV files with DTS sound, gets ERROR 0x00d5212, does any one know why?

Keep in mind that not all MKV or AVI codecs are supported on the Xbox One. Xbox One supports a wide variety of codecs and media types, but if you try to play a file that contains unsupported content, Media Player will notify you about the issue. The Xbox
One tries to support the MKV features that are most important to most customers. Not all features of the MKV format will be implemented, and features will be provided in the order in which they provide the most value. I recommend taking a look at a table of
MKV files that contain video and audio tracks encoded with supported codecs for the Xbox One from the following support article, "MKV support on Xbox One", and
compare your codecs with the ones listed on the table.

That does not answer my question. I know where the audio options are, what they are, and what they mean. What I am saying is I want to see, somewhere, (since I cannot on the receiver when selecting 5.1 or 7.1 uncompressed), that i am indeed hearing DTS-HD
MA if that's what my source blueray is. The receiver will show only PCM - but there should be somewhere in the xbox user interface where it can tell me it's currently uncompressing DTS-HD MA (for example)

WMC does x264 out of the box with no issues.

But the MKV container is not supported by default in Windows 7, so it requires a 3rd party MKV splitter. Since WMC on x64 is a 64 bit process, it uses the 64 bit codec stack. But the default WMP that launches when you double click an MKV is the 32-bit
version, even on a 64 bit OS, and many people only have 32 bit MKV splitters installed.
