Series S won't launch my Xbox One titles

Once again, thank you for your unfailingly polite schooling on this matter.

I am now aware of the ambiguity of the assertions regarding the transfer of previously installed content from an Xbox One to a Series S - you can purchase it and transfer it but you may not be able to actually use it, depending on the medium you initially used. Microsoft could have made this completely and unambiguously clear on the information I screenshotted in my earlier reply. Something like, "If you purchased any games for your Xbox One on a disc then you can transfer them to your new Series S but you won't be able to use them again until you pay for them again." Enough said.

To be fair, I'm not really interested in the complexities of DRM and the more nefarious activities that some unscrupulous individuals use to circumvent it - at the time I just wanted a clear picture of the consequences of moving from one console to another. And perhaps I was a little naive in ignoring third-party sources of information prior to making that decision rather than getting my information directly from Microsoft. 👍

It was clearly announced

Discs games will always require discs

No platform in the world .would.break that rule

Last time a platform tried to change that 300k bloggers petitioned and mattick lost his job.

Smart delivery requires confirmation of ownership

Xbox one titles can be played on series consoles yes but you DONT have the digital rights seeing as you have the discs versions

All platforms including series s and xbox one s digital and ps4 and ps5 digitals are digital only

Smart.delivery downloads patches not the licenses unless it has a free upgrade

But still requires ownership of discs

Your idea would allow you to copy games onto your hdd and sell them and this could be done unlimited.

That would be a major violation of the law

Yes the original xbox one os would've allowed you to install and put away the disc forever but we know what happened there

Nno license is ever assigned to your account from a disk that a PC only thing we don't want to go back to pc cdkeys

You will.never be able to sell your disk and xbox or sony would have the rep of not allowing reselling of disks which as proven with xbox one is a death sentence after the lost generation and the firing of Don mattrick

What you are suggesting is what xbox one os used to be

To validate an disk install you need to be randomly checked for online without the disk

Since people are already complaining about abusing home share that will never go over well and people revolted and now xbox is a distant 3rd.

Requiring day one patch and signup doesn't help even if sony requires it

Thanks, but when doing my research before buying the Series S it was made clear that my old Xbox One library, which has already been bought and paid for, would seamlessly be transferred over to the new console during the installation process.

So, have I been misled my Microsoft?

Umm that because you need proof of ownership

You didn't buy the digital version so you don't own it

The xbox series S is digital only

Installing a disk onto a external.hdd does NOT remove the ownership requirement of discs

You should've bought the xbox series x if you wanted to use discs and yes this was announced before launch
