Series S Fan

So usually when I play on my series s the fan makes a loudish noise....

The Series S, just like the Series X is designed to be quite, in normal gaming (even when play X|S optimised games) the Series S fan should not be audible. It should be pretty much silent.

Have you changed the location of where your console is located? These consoles get warm (hot even), this is normal. So their location is actually more important than hearing the fan spinning.

If your console's fan is making a lot of noise even when it's just on the Home Screen, then I'd suggest having it serviced, as I don't think that's normal.

Do you know if your console is still under warranty? if your console is under warranty, repairs would be free of cost. Xbox consoles typically have a warranty period of 1 year after purchase although this may vary depending on where you live. A console's fan being louder could be completely normal depending on what the console is doing/running at that moment, or it could also mean that your console is not getting enough ventilation

Are you hearing any strange mechanical noises coming from the fan? if this is the case, your console's problem may be hardware-related and for that, it would need to be serviced.

If it's just the fan being louder than usual, are you getting any "Insufficient ventilation" warnings, or experiencing sudden shutdowns? In that case, please make sure your console's positioning complies with the tips shown on this support page:
