So there is no 12 digit serial number like on the Xbox One and Kinect? Maybe you're right though as it doesn't say how to find the number for a controller at the following link, so maybe it's not able to be registered:

Keep in mind that all accessories [meaning anything that is not an Xbox One console or anything other than a regular controller] carry only a 90-day warranty, meaning that even if you could see the serial number of your device, if you attempted to set-up
a repair for your device, you would be instead prompted to purchase a new accessory altogether.

However, if your device is still in warranty, you can
Contact Xbox Customer Support to assist you with finding the serial number of your device.

Are you referring to the Controller serial number located in the battery compartment? AFAIK and can see via Microsoft Support section, that is the only location that the information is available so if the label has been removed or damaged then there may
be no other way to get that information.

I thought the Microsoft Support web site used to list accessory serial numbers too but can't find any for all of the controllers that I've used with my Xbox One consoles.

If you are referring to the Xbox One console serial number, you can go into the Settings - System - Console info section and the serial number info etc should be available there. Alternatively the console serial number should be available on your Microsoft

I don't recall having to ever enter a SSN when I got my 360 repaired back when the old white one was first out. It is asking for your consoles serial number.

support.xbox.com/.../find-xbox-one-kinect-serial-number is help on this.
