Sept 2015 system update - external hdd no longer recognized

After running the update (sept 2015) my console no longer recognizes my external hdd (ie: in media player). This drive has been connected to my console since day one, and has never had issues. Both mac and PC computers recognize it immediately.

Power cycling thru system settings SOMETIMES helps recognize.

Plugging/unplugging the drive has not worked so far.

Quick search online shows many people with a similar issue.

    *MS support.... any fixes coming?

    :)

external hard drive no longer recognized after update

Same here. Since the update (sept 2015) my external is not recognized by the console. Power cycling SOMETIMES helps. This is a bummer, as probably 70% of my xbox one use is accessing content on this drive.

The drive has no problems being detected by a computer.

  3. External harddrive for media not recognised by Xbox one

I have an external drive that was connected during the update and it is no longer recognized either. It's extremely frustrating.

Sept 2015 system update - external hdd no longer recognized

    First, look at this:

    support.xbox.com/.../console-doesnt-detect-external-storage

    support.xbox.com/.../media-player-faq

I would normally tell people to find the TS them selfs by going to X spot then > X spot ETC, but you seem swavy enough to know what your doing.

Thank you for providing troubleshooting steps already.

Try a simple TS: Go to settings on your xbox one > Power and startup > Restart now. WILL CLEAR CASHE. Do it. Same issue? Worst case scenario try factory resetting console, worst case is that you'll need to download your games and media again and that's about
    it.

"Power cycling thru system settings SOMETIMES helps recognize."

As I already said, I power cycle through the system settings. No that doesnt help. This isnt troubleshooting a HDD, this is troubleshooting an issue obviously caused by the recent system update.

I've also figured out, power cycling alone isnt enought. I power cycled 6 times in a row last night and it never recognized. But now I seem to have a repeatable method.

With the console powered on, and the drive not recognized, I need to unplug the HDD, replug it in while the console is still on, then power cycle the console thru the system settings.

This is hardly a viable solution.

Also, dont be trite. Xbox is a MS company. And considering recently VIPs claim xbox one is 100% a windows product, I hardly think its inappropriate to address the broader support group.

    To be clear.

When you say power Cycleing I think of. Un-plugging the PSU from the console and from the wall for more then 10 minutes. Please clarify what you mean by Power Cycling.

As "Restart now" is a method in it's self.

To make sure we understand what my meaning was.

By me saying this is xbox support, that is true. Xbox is a sister company of MS. Talking to MS directly they will transfer you to xbox support for your issue. There two different companys/departments. This will save yourself time if you do try to contact
MS support because I don't want you to waste your times. That's why I was saying it in the first place. not to be trite. Simply to help you.

    To ensure we're on track.

I already provided all the TS that is possible, If we want to do them that's up to you, not me. It's simply an "option" not a "Solution" I'am not here to give you a solution because I don't know what caused the issue in the first place. That's by Troubleshooting
helps us understand and narrow down what Actully is the issue.

With the info you gave us already it sound like there needs to be more troubleshooting steps done or more questions answered in order to give you your "Solution".

    Good luck.

Sept 2015 system update - external hdd no longer recognized

When I log in to xbox, in order to use support, it asks for my "microsoft account". Being argumentative over semantics is not helpful or supportive.

Yes, I've used restart now. It hasnt helped.
