Separating one Microsoft account into two (XBOX & Parents email)

10 years ago I set up an XBOX 360 for my then 7 year old son using my Hotmail email address. Fast forward to now and the combined nature of email/XBOX being an all in one Microsoft account my now 18 year old adult offspring still uses my email for his gaming.
This means he has to have my password and then access to all my emails and I have full access into his XBOX account.

We cannot now separate the two from each other as they are intrinsically linked as a Microsoft Account. I want him to be able to transfer his XBOX account and all associated data to his outlook email/his personal Microsoft account. How can I do this?

I can't close my emails and start again, its most of my adult life in there an he has 10 years worth of games etc that he will not want to loose.

We really need to get this sorted!!!!!! Please can someone help?

Unfortunately there is no way to separate the account. If it is a Microsoft email address (hotmail, outlook, live etc) removing the email address will close that down and you wouldn't have access to any other Microsoft service you may use.

This is unfortunately what happens when a child account isn't set up correctly.

Your Microsoft account and the Xbox account are basically just one thing. They cannot be separated completely without deleting the email account. Sorry but one of you will have to start over fresh if you wish to separate the two accounts.

Please be informed that it's not possible to have two accounts in a single email address. You both are using the same Microsoft/Xbox account. Unfortunately, it's not possible to separate those two. An Xbox account or profile is a Microsoft account itself.

Since I was young when I got my Xbox the account was made using my sisters email, seeing as though an Xbox account and Microsoft account are separate, how could I put the Xbox account under a new Microsoft account without deleting my sisters Microsoft account entirely? I’ve tried calling but have had no luck.

A Microsoft and Xbox account are actually not separate. They are one of the same.

If you change the Microsoft email on the account to an email of your own then your sister will lose her email address forever.

You can add your own email as a secondary alias however youd still use her password to sign in and anytime she changes her password shed have to give you the new one.

Long story short is there isnt any way to completely separate the two without one of you (either your sister or you) having to start completely over. (either you with a brand new xbox profile or her with a brand new Microsoft email)

Hey there!

How are you saying that you have two profiles under one email? This would not be possible as you are only able to register one Xbox profile per Microsoft account. Please explain how you use two different accounts under one email, is there two separate gamertags
for you and one for them?

Unfortunately you are unable to move the Gamertag from one Microsoft account to another either. The only way to actually update the email address would be to

Update the Primary Alias on the account as CIDkidzPILLZ has mentioned above.
